We are closing the Library entirely from 5pm on Tuesday 7 April until 9am on Tuesday 14 April. As well as the physical buildings being closed, all Library staff will be on leave during this time as part of the Easter break being observed across most of the University.
The Library’s online resources will continue to be available during this period:
- YorSearch (https://yorsearch.york.ac.uk) can be used to find lots of online resources on every subject... - The Subject Guides for each department are a good starting point for resources related to your discipline: https://subjectguides.york.ac.uk/ - The E-resources Guide https://subjectguides.york.ac.uk/az.php) is where you’ll find all our online resources. This includes a list of extra content we currently have access to and can be viewed by choosing the ‘Covid-19’ category of resources.
We advise you to check our coronavirus FAQs for both staff and students to get the latest information: https://subjectguides.york.ac.uk/coronavi rus/
You can also get lots more guidance and support:
- The Skills Guides have lots of tips for working smartly and developing your skills: https://subjectguides.york.ac.uk/skills - The new Studying Online guide will help you manage your move to online learning: https://subjectguides.york.ac.uk/skills/s tudying-online
We won’t be answering the phone during the closure period, but you can leave a voicemail with your name and username. Or you can send an email to the Library during this time on lib-enquiry@york.ac.uk and we’ll pick up your message as soon as we can when we reopen.
We hope you can also take some time to rest before the new term, and we look forward to working with you again after the Easter break.

In consultation with the University we have made the difficult decision to close all Library buildings after 5pm tomorrow, Friday 20 March. This is unavoidable: we must do all we can to protect the health and wellbeing of staff, students and other Library users.
The main library buildings (Morrell, Fairhurst and Burton) will be open today and tomorrow from 9am to 5pm, but will then close until further notice. We strongly recommend that if you require access to physical materi...als you should take these out as soon as possible.
The libraries at King's Manor and York Minster and the Borthwick Institute for Archives are already closed and will remain so for the foreseeable future.
We've made some changes to how loans and recalls will work during this period. You'll find full details on our news item, which we'll keep up-to-date: https://www.york.ac.uk/library/news/2020/ coronavirus/
We don't yet know when the library buildings will re-open. In the meantime we are looking at ways to make more resources available online. Library staff remain available to support you so please do get in touch if you have any queries: https://www.york.ac.uk/library/contact/
