We are a democratic, student focused organisation. We campaign on behalf of students, facilitate student events, societies and sports and provide important services including advice, wellbeing & outlets. We exist to make student life better.
Ussu - University Of Sussex Students' Union Description
The Students’ Union is a democratic organisation that is student led and student focused. Its function is to facilitate, empower and support students in organising themselves whether that is to produce a creative magazine such as Poda Poda, to run campaigns such as Sussex Against Sweat Shops or Students Against Sexual Harassment, to form a sports club /team like the Sussex Ultimate Frisbee team, the Mohawks, or to be part of one of the liberation groups such as the LGBTQ group or Womens’ group. It also aims to represent students and campaign for progressive change on a University and National level to improve Students lives. Recently the Union successfully campaigned to keep the campus crèche open and has been fighting the Government’s plans to raise tuition fees. It also provides students with services ranging from the Advice and Representation Centre which gives free and confidential advice to students for educational and welfare relating issues, facilitating student sports and societies to opening a new students’ lettings agency.
The Union is directed by students through policy made at regular all student meetings, through referenda and through the 41 elected students who represent the student body in the Union at meetings, which all students can attend, called Council.

📣If you are a student with a disability, please consider taking the Survey on Disabled Students' Experiences of Higher Education (closes today).
Background - The Higher Education Commission is carrying out an inquiry into the experiences of disabled students in higher education, and is seeking disabled students to respond to this survey as part of the evidence base for the inquiry.
The Commission has already carried out two roundtable evidence sessions with small groups of ...disabled students and disability practitioners, and will also be issuing a public call for evidence from universities and providers of support services.
The survey includes questions on students’ experiences of accommodation, teaching, student societies and clubs, and other areas. The Commission will use the evidence gathered for the inquiry to make recommendations to Government, policymakers and universities about how to improve disabled students' experiences.
