About Utc Harbourside

UTC@harbourside will give Sussex young people aged 14‚Äď18 the chance study subjects such as Maths, English & Sciences while gaining skills in engineering

Utc Harbourside Description

UTC@harbourside is a new college for 14-18 year olds in Sussex interested in science, technology, engineering, maths and computing.

We are one of a growing number of exciting new University Technical Colleges(UTCs) ‚Äď state-funded colleges with a different approach to traditional schools. They teach students technical and scientific subjects in a whole new way to educate the inventors, engineers, scientists and technicians of tomorrow.

Our focus is on engineering, a real interest in the environment and in creating a sustainable future. We will work with leading employers to give you the real skills, real experience and real qualifications you will need to succeed in the workplace, at university and beyond.

If you are passionate about the environment and sustainability then engineering could be the way you get to make a real difference to the world in which we live. At the UTC you will learn how engineering drives our life, our economy and shapes our future …
‚ÄĘUse your knowledge of chemistry to develop products that are 100% recyclable
‚ÄĘLearn how maths can help solve the environmental challenges of droughts and floods
‚ÄĘFind out how things work and use science to invent a new generation of energy efficient products
‚ÄĘLearn to design and programme computer systems that can, for example, run energy recovery plants to operate completely unmanned.

You will be tackling those subjects in exciting new ways, in the context of real life situations. Hands-on with technology. Making, testing and evaluating. With the opportunity to experience the world of work as you learn. Learning from professionals in business and industry. With teacher who are genuinely passionate about their subject and its applications.

If that sounds exciting, and you would like to find out more about our GCSE, A Level and BTec courses, why not come and meet our Principal at one of our events coming up soon? If you would like to find out more first you can download a copy of our prospectus.

The UTC is sponsored by the University of Brighton, educational charity the Aldridge Foundation, Lewes District Council, and local employer Veolia UK.

Staff and students at UTC@Harbourside are celebrating after securing some strong KS4 results.
Lisa Jepson, Acting Principal, said: “I am really pleased for our staff and students. After a difficult 12 months, they have shown their talents and determination by securing really good exam outcomes.
‚ÄúOverall, the average point score is up by nearly three-quarters of a grade. We expect the national data will show our students made significantly improved progress and nearly half of ...our engineering students achieved a coveted Distinction * or Distinction in the subject.‚ÄĚ
Ms Jepson added: “These results are really important for the UTC. They show that we are on a positive trajectory which will give the staff and students momentum in our final year.
‚ÄúThe Class of 2018 has raised the bar, and I have no doubt that our remaining students will do all that they can to raise it even further.‚ÄĚ

Congratulations to all UTC@Harbourside students who received their results yesterday. I wish you all luck and send you my warmest wishes for your future plans. These results really are testament to the talents and abilities of you all. There have been some fantastic individual performances and you really have excelled in subjects that are at the very heart of our UTC.
There is no denying that the last 12 months have had their challenges, however, the staff have worked tirelessly with the students and it has paid off. The results are a real credit to everyone in our community.
Lisa Jepson - Acting Principal
