Fitted in 1992, (25yrs old) this VC 182E is in better shape than virtually any condensing boiler I've seen in the last 10 years... Built to last...
So true...
This week, happy 22nd birthday... Leaking stuffing box on the PD switch, and all as good as new. Recharged the expansion vessel, after 22 years still holding up and performing like new... VCW 242E 1994.
Christmas is coming... Stocking fillers
Dear Mark I am at my wits end,I am 74 yrs old and on a fixed income with no knowledge of boilers or how they work. My pressure keeps dropping ...I top up with water and the water and heating work perfectly but then when I switch heating off the pressure drops low and starts flashing again, and I start again with topping up. I phoned a company that stated no call out charge ,when I booked them she said it would be £78 for the engineers time...not call out, but would deduct tha...t money from the cost of the repair , when he came he was here for around 20 minutes and then said it was possibly the expansion chamber which would cost close to £700 including vat I was so shocked I said I would have to save up to get it done..he then took £94 from me as he said it was including vat. So now if I want another engineer it may cost me another £100 before I start again. Can you please help me. Yours sincerely Beryl
Hello Beryl, That's absolutely appalling to hear, and disgraceful. The expansion vessel can be recharged at NO cost whatsoever. If the vessel has failed and needs replacing, they are approx £80.00 to purchase. (NOT £700.00) At the worst case, the repairs would cost approx £200-£250 INCLUDING the parts required. At best, the vessel can be charged in less than 20 minutes, and should be charged at the minimum cost, or an hours labour charges at most. Really sorry to hear of your dilemma, but we're based in London, and I have no idea of your location, so we're unable to help. Mark

Yet again, filling loop valves letting by on an Ecotec. This has become more regular than the average bowel movement. Such poor quality valves. And at £60-£70 each, ridiculously expensive for such a common fault. However, the introduction of a third valve inbetween may not be pretty, but £100 cheaper than new valves!!
New Keston boiler system, which are actually twin flued Ideal Logic boilers in disguise. The perfect replacements for the previously appalling Keston boilers. So glad the original company is no longer manufacturing. Installed by Jim Smoker, and a very nice job too. The low loss header system works so well.
Meet Vera, the Harris Hawk. Carrying out pigeon duty in Bow today. Not every day you step out the lift door and are faced with a bloody great hawk! Made my day watching her patrol the skies....
Well, there I am happily servicing the best boiler Vaillant have evrr made, when something caught my eye! How lucky was the chap who left that!
Perfect example of how NOT to plumb in your waste pipes! Appalling..
How sexy??
So, (I said), when exactly, was the last time your boiler caught on fire? Is it really worth saving the £100 for a service, to have this death sentence under your kids bedrooms? Obviously yes!
