About Viewfinder Photographic Society

The Viewfinder Photographic Society meets on Monday evenings at Skidby Village Hall, Skidby, East Yorkshire at 7. 00 pm, although from May through to August each year, we try to get out and about depending on the weather.

Viewfinder Photographic Society Description

The Viewfinder Photographic Society was born of a crisis! It was September 2007, and several long-standing students of a local photography evening class presented themselves as usual at the Adult Education offices in Cottingham to enrol. Shock and despair! The class was already fully subscribed!

We were delighted that the class was so popular, but for those of us ‘out in the cold’ it was a case of hang up our tripods or go it alone. After a few seconds’ deliberation we chose the latter. We knew we wanted to continue to meet, to share our enthusiasm, expertise and common interest in photography with each other and with others who might join us.

A planning meeting was soon organised at the Half Moon pub in Skidby, and a new photographic society was launched, boasting a dozen or so members.

Year on year, we have attracted new members, largely thanks to the publicity surrounding our annual exhibition, and numbers have steadily grown. We remain true to our original objective, though, of creating and running a friendly, supportive club and the breadth of our membership means we always have a wealth of expertise on hand for beginners and more experienced enthusiasts alike.
