Hi everybody,
Please find below the following statement from Trustees:
There have been many rumours regarding Vigil lately and we would like to address these issues.
... Vigil has been going through a lot of internal changes to bring us in line with the working practice of the modern day, this involves changing policies and working practices, to comply with health and safety and data protection laws. Always at the centre of any changes are the welfare and wellbeing of dogs in our care, they always take priority.
We have also made a decision to move the kennelling of our dogs to VonWolf Kennels in Horley. This decision gives us more flexibility in rehoming and viewing of our dogs, with a safe working practice in place from VonWolf and Vigil prospective adoptees are able to visit and view dogs at times more suitable to them.
We would like to thank Treetops for their support over the years and wish them luck in relocating to new premises
A Special thankyou to all our volunteers past and present we look forward to your continued support during this period.
We have had a few teething problems with phones, website etc, during these changes and ask you to bear with use during this transition. If you have any questions or queries please email the honsec in the first instance at honsec.vigilgsdrescue@gmail.com.
Thank you.
Best wishes to everyone

The lovely sasha

User

Here's 7 year old Sasha (the darker coat) and 3 year old Diesel (a lighter black and tan) For more info, please call Emma on 07487 809343

User

Thank you to everyone who came to lend a paw this afternoon, goodness it was hot, so the dogs enjoyed the chance to paddle and swim and have water everywhere.
Had a lovely time with Sasha and Diesel who came into rescue with us last week - tomorrow I will try to upload the photo from my mobile. Sasha had a really good brush today and she has halved her size as a result.... there was a lot of fur on the ground! We would really love to re-home them together.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend everybody, and our German Shepherds all say thank you to you all for your support and help xxx

User

it was my first dog walk with Vigil today at Guilford, absolutely loved it. especially the walk routes around there, very relaxing and beautiful. Definitely won't be my last time :)

User

did some volunteer work this afternoon, although I only popped in for a chat! You know, before you know it, it's throw that ball, walk this dog, pet that one ... what a lovely way to spend time. Can't recommend it enough

User

We've rehomed storm this week and oh my what an amazing fella he is!! You would think he's been here with us for a long time, vigil were amazing in helping us to pick the right dog for us as a family with children.couldnt fault them atall thankyou vigil for our making our family complete

We wanted to say a massive thankyou to everyone at Vigil who helped look after Freddie. He is an absolutely terrific boy and continues to settle in at the Hughes household really well. He is such a doll, waggs his tail at everyone, loves company and visitors. He is very inquistive and takes an interest in everything, he's slowly taking to the ball too!. He loves his food, being spolit with Lilly's Kitchen... We adore him to bits!

User

We have two rescue dogs through Biggsd, both are beautiful, despite what happened previously in their lives , with TLC and the ground work done by Biggsd/ Vigil , they have their moments but are stable, open to love affection and training !!! With guide lines, time and attention..just perfect. We had follow up calls from John to make sure all is going ok with support if we need it.

User

We have rehomed sabre. He is absolutely lovely and everything they said he was. Lovely rescue who really seem to care about the dogs. Just a shame we don't have room for all the dogs!

User

We have been lucky enough to rehome a Vigil dog. I had spoken to Sue a couple of times over a few weeks and when we had decided to adopt the whole process was quick and easy. On visiting the kennels at Guildford we were impressed by the dedication and devotion of all involved, the safety and the knowledge of each of the dogs in their care. I would not hesitate to recommend Vigil. Keep up the good work.

User

We have adopted two dogs from Vigil and have no regrets and have also fostered dogs for them , They are the most wonderful people who work tirelessly for the benefit of the gorgeous dogs in their care

If you are thinking of adoption please don't overlook the older dogs they have so much love to give

User

We have adopted four GSDs over the years from Vigil, all with very different histories. They do their best to have as much info as possible about the dogs, and they assess them well for their suitability for their new home. They retrain where needed before re-homing. Recommended

User

Teddy is our first from Vigil hard work to start with, but has turned out great. The whole adoption was quick and easy. Would do it again

User

Its a very painful thing to give up your "best friend/child" but I had to make that difficult choice due to a change in circumstances resulting in my inability to give my boy what he needed anymore. I dropped him off today and the staff were so nice and understanding even though I was beside myself with sadness and tears. I can not thank them enough for their understanding, from calling the co-ordinators to those looking after Baxter at Treetops. THANK YOU.

User

I went with my partner a year ago yesterday to help out to walk the dogs. As vigil will say they only walk to dogs for long walks a few days in the week due to not having enough volunteers, we went to help and came across "Bal Boa" now named bear. His picture didn't do him justice but when he came and sat between my legs I knew he was the dog for me. Even though I didn't have the funds to pay until I got paid a week later, staff said that's fine and also gave dog food and leads to keep us going until I could go to the pet shop the next day.

I advise anyone to go down to vigil and help out, give an hour of your time by walking the dogs and like me you might come away with the worlds best GSD who deserves the life he gets because he is a legend !

I will be going to vigil again for my next dog

User

I visited Vigil today and was so impressed with the devoted staff and volunteers. They clearly have a love of the breed and every dog there is an individual with their own characters which are recognised and considered by the team.

User

I took my dog to vigil after being unable to manage him. They were so understanding and kind which made the difficult parting that little bit easier to bear. I was able to see the other dogs and how happy well cared for they were which gave me confidence that my dog would be looked after. They take a lovely personal approach and really appear to think of each individual dog with regards to the dogs needs etc. My dog was very nervous and reactive with people and dogs vigil in a day seemed to have already made a difference with his confidence. These kind people are miracle workers in my eyes and I cannot thank them enough for what they have done. Thank you vigil especially Sue, Erica and Mike who were all so helpful and kind.

I rescued Maxwell on October the 4th 2008 he was about 21 months old very thin and I'll,my other shepherd came with us and they picked each other Harley is now nearly twelve and Max Nealy eleven I think ,both are still very healthy we went to look at another shepherd before we met Max but Harley chose him and I remember John saying if anyone n needs a home it's Maxwell, the rest is history, the only bad point is I've moved home, tried telling vigil my new address buy to no avail

User

I have been a volunteer dog walker since March and I am very impressed with what this charity does for German Shepherds. Me and my husband decided to foster Barry, one of the rescues as he had been one of the first dogs we met and I walked. He has some health problems and was in need of a home. Within a week of having Barry at our home we just had to adopt him! He has settled in well and a very spoilt and happy dog! Thank you Vigil

User

I adopted a 4? Year old GSD from Vigil (Easter, now Riley.. don't ask...)a month or so ago and could not have been happier with how efficient and professional the service was.. had a nice chat with the dog walking volunteer when myself and my sons came to meet 'Riley' and he became another child for me to nag very quickly... such an amazing dog and an amazing friend to me.. Thankyou Vigil..

User

Found my best friend through Vigil 5 years ago and don't know what I would do without him now. Rehoming process was quick and easy and he was soon by my side. Thank you Vigil! Would rehome through you again in a heartbeat if I could!

User

A brilliant rescue they love all their rescues and try hard to rehome all their babies. I have had two German shepherds from them and they have been fab.
