About Vikings Of Middle England

Vikings of Middle England are an Historical Entertainment and Re-Enactment group based in Leicester, UK.

Vikings Of Middle England Description

The Vikings of Middle England are an Historical Entertainment, Living History and Viking Re-Enactment group based in Leicester, UK. We perform to audiences across the country, showing the struggles and victories of our Viking, Saxon and Norman ancestors. Made up of volunteer members, we provide spectacularly visceral combat displays, dramatic acted scenarios and an extensive 'living history' encampment that breathes as craftsmen and women go about their business.

There are many and varied ways of experiencing history. In Vikings of Middle England, members share their passion for history by recreating aspects of the Viking age; through traditional crafts, martial arts, experimental archaeology and dramatic performance. There is no other hobby or activity that offers so many options!

The primary goal of the group is to Educate and Entertain at events around the country. As with any voluntary organisation, there's a certain level of commitment necessary for this to happen, for safety and for the quality of the end product. This means engaging in various displays and attending weekly meetings where there is combat training and living history workshops.

But that's the business end. After the site is emptied of the paying audience, the party starts and the extended family of Vikings of Middle England enjoys a break; eating together, playing silly games and having a beer or two ready for the next day of activities.

To be a re-enactor is to share and protect our heritage, and at the end of the day fool around with a bunch of good mates. It's an eccentric, electric, entertaining and often absurd hobby - in one word - fun.

The Vikings of Middle England were at the Derbyshire Woodland Festival 2018 this past weekend displaying Viking-age life and crafts. Here is a selection of images showing some of the displays we put on, including blacksmithing, calligraphy, games, feasting and pastimes, surgery and medicine, and trade.

Is this the Most extreme and profitable game of tat-you’re-it? I’m pretty sure #banksy got this idea from our game of hiding entertaining ‘tat’ in each other’s kit 😜. Currently we have a tiny walkers crisps van, and obi-wan statue and an Ovaltine boy in circulation. #checkyoukit #tatyoureit #britishmuesum

Exciting find! There aren’t many game boards found in Britain dating to the viking age!

Preparing for our display tomorrow! #RockinghamCastle #Icelandichorses #Vikings #rehearsal

We were going to live stream some reactions, but we were too busy laughing our collective behinds off 😂🤣 Well done chaps!

Apparently Hrafn has too many swords...

Just a couple of weekends away!

These guys are amazing, saw them twice at Rockingham Castle (they return there in August). Unbelievably visceral battle re-enactments and the combat, costumes and settlement displays really transport you to what Viking life must have been like. VoME must be one of, if not the best, living history groups in the country. A must-see!

These guys and gals are a great bunch of people I've just joined them last week made me feel very welcome can't wait to spend weekend with them

User

Spent the afternoon with the kids, Chris, Janet and VoME at Tatton Old Hall a good time was had by all!

User

I've fought and died with these Vikings superb skills and set pieces.

Great entertainment for the family and ofc great warriors to fight alongside and against :)

I took my 7 year old daughter and her friend to The Old Hall, Tatton Viking Day on 13/08/17 and it was an incredible afternoon. They are both about to study the Anglo Saxons and Vikings in Y3 and this was the perfect and most entertaining way to immerse them into this part of history. Thank you all for your passion, knowledge, experience, hands-on activities, battles, stories and memories.

We used to come and love to watch your events but then certain egos got to big and it was same old same old! Lost it’s appeal to a few at the time!
