On this day in 1631, Samuel Harsnett died. Born in Colchester, Harsnett went on to briefly serve as headmaster at Colchester Royal Grammar School before becoming Archdeacon of Essex and ultimately Archbishop of York. His statue can be seen on the town hall.

Visit Colchester HQ & Hollytrees Museum are open as usual this Bank Holiday Weekend (closed Sunday, but open 10-5 on Monday).
