Visit Swindon Description

Where the Cotswolds meet the West Country, a visit to Swindon will leave you spoilt for choice.

The town is famous for the Great Western Railway works and as they are now an important part of our heritage you can visit the award-winning STEAM museum set in a beautifully restored grade II listed former railway building and learn about the men and women who built, operated and travelled on the Great Western Railway

After your visit to Steam you can visit Europe’s largest designer outlet in the splendidly restored Victorian buildings of the Great Western Railway works. Choose from over 100 designer label shops and enjoy huge discounts off top brands.

Swindon is enriched with Victorian parks and gardens. These include the Town gardens with its beautiful bandstand and Queens Park where you can sit by the lake and feed the ducks. To the west of Swindon you will find Lydiard Park where you can walk amongst the restored gardens of Lydiard Mansion and visit the house itself. Further afield there is Stanton Park which provides many walking trails and a variety of beautiful scenery.

For lovers of music and spectacle Swindon is definitely the place for you. Choose your festival - Old Town Festival, Swindon Summer Festival, Forest Festival, World Music Festival, Jazz Festival, Literature Festival and many more.
