Viva Acappella

As #EndGame is out today, we wanted to give a shout out to this awesome youth quartet, Vintage Mix and their super fun arrangement of the Avenger theme song.

Viva went to Category School this Sunday! üéµ üíà
One of our TWO BABS Performance judges-in-training put together a session all about the SAI categories. We split up into Singing, Music, Expression and Showmanship, and taught each other about what our category is looking for on stage. We also identified the one biggest “bang for the buck” change we as a chorus can make to push into the next level in each category. This was great for some of our newer members who were not familiar... with how we are scored.
Then, we got to judge for ourselves! Using footage from the 2018 SAI semi-finals, we were asked to put our category hats on üé© and listen to some choruses, each one singing at a distinct level. After the intro, we paused the song to assign a level (B, B+, A-, A or A+), then after the whole song was through we each put a number score on it with reasons WHY based on our category factors.
Turns out, we are a tough crowd to please! But most people were able to easily see and hear the distinct differences between what A- sounds like and what B+ sounds like. Then, we watched our own last regional performance with judge hats on. A learning experience, indeed!
Thanks to Chantel from our Performance team for putting together a unique training session that helped give us all a bit more understanding in what we are working towards. So excited for New Orleans!⚜️

We've had the pleasure of being "Mance'd" for two evenings this week, and I don't think we'll ever forget it! It was -so- interesting to have everyone's vocal issues (and strengths!) worked on, and be restacked and be able to experience the difference in the sound. The quality of singing is outstanding and after five years I still have to pinch myself that I am part of such talented group.

When I moved to the UK, I knew I was joining this chorus before I knew where I was going to live. ÔøΩ

Viva Acappella is a group of extraordinarily talented committed, fun-loving female barbershop singers. Our passion for perfecting our close-harmony singing has meant we have been lucky enough to compete with Sweet Adelines International in Hawaii and Las Vegas. We are of all ages and all backgrounds. Viva Acappella has changed my life. Together we have achieved so much in such a short time. I am often asked why I travel so far each week to rehearsal and the answer is quite simple - it is the best and most rewarding couple of hours in my week.

The first time I heard Viva, they'd let my quartet use them as a guinea pig audience for our contest set. I stayed for the rehearsal and was hugely impressed by their sound, especially the bass section which is unusual in a ladies' chorus. Now nearly two and a half years on, I am on the Music Team, the Performance Team and the Board, have had the privilege to compete with them twice in the UK and go to Las Vegas to represent the UK, and most of all am lucky enough to count them all as one crazy, quirky, laughing and loving family. <3

Such a tremendously rewarding, enjoyable hobby making wonderful music with this group ÔøΩ

Such a huge part of my life - not only do we work hard, we laugh a lot and achieve great things! I've met my best, life-long friends through this wonderful hobby!!!

I'm relatively new to Viva Acappella, and it's been the most amazing experience. Every weekly rehearsal is a pure joy and passes like a flash! There's an intense focus on the music, but it feels light as air because of the beauty of the voices coming together...not to mention the fun of working on performance, and the, ahem, frequent giggles! And I've already made some great friends. A truly magic group of women that has added a lot to my life!

I stumbled across Viva Acappella several years ago when I decided I'd like to progress from constantly singing around the house (annoying the family) and the odd Karaoke after a few too many wines. When I popped along one Thursday evening, I wasn't expecting the amazing sound that I heard - I knew immediately that I wanted to be part of this Chorus. Since that evening I have never looked back. I've had the opportunity to sing in Competitions up and down the UK, as well as International competitions in Hawaii and Las Vegas. We've had coaching from professional Coaches around the globe and are extremely lucky to have an amazingly talented and passionate Director. Most importantly I have made an amazing group of lifelong friends that I would never have found had it not been for Viva!

Come and join our fabulous, fun and friendly chorus. Every week is so much fun. We work hard but also know how to play hard.

Being part of Viva is literally a whirlwind of fun, laughter, entertainment, hard work, commitment, drive, passion and singing! I had never sung before I joined a group of ladies I barely knew 10yrs ago. I have learnt so much, mastered new skills, achieved the unthinkable, travelled the world and found amazing new friends. When you get the Viva bug you can't shake it! Give it a try, you will not be disappointed!

Being part of Viva Acappella isn't actually about joining a singing group. Yes, we all love to sing, enjoy a challenge and competitions, and love the sound of harmony. But...it's so much more. It's friendships, it's getting away from the kids and thinking of nothing else other than being the best singer you can be at that point in time. It's having a shoulder to cry on after a hard day, or laughing till your sides ache when you can't get a move right. Quite simply, there is no other place I'd rather be on a Thursday at 7.45pm.
