Voyages To Antiquity

About Voyages To Antiquity

Voyages to Antiquity is a specialist cruise line focusing on the history and culture of the Mediterranean, Aegean, Britain, Iceland & North Atlantic.

Voyages To Antiquity Description

Voyages to Antiquity has created a cruise experience that is not only for the amateur or professional historian but also for people who simply want to understand the history, art, myths and culture of the ancient world.

A Voyage to Antiquity cruise aims to open a window into the origins and genius of western civilisation, as well as the rich culture of Africa and Asia. These journeys, however, are not only about history. As well as seeing breathtaking archaeological treasures you will also see some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.

Ecologist Andy Bunten is one of our expert guest lecturers and he joined Aegean Odyssey earlier in the year on her British Isles sailing. Andy offered several interesting talks, but he also spent a lot of time out on the open decks, chatting with guests and looking for seabirds and marine life. We have a wide array of guest lecturers who each specialise in different areas, but we’ve always wondered what cruising is like from their point of view. To get a glimpse into ‘lecturer life’, we asked Andy why he enjoys it so much: https://blog.voyagestoantiquity.com/what- a-fabulous-thing-…/

Aegean Odyssey is in Palermo at present, a destination famous for many things, including The Godfather Saga. The first film of this world-famous trilogy, The Godfather by Francis Ford Coppola (1972), is still considered nowadays one of the best productions of all time. We all appreciated Marlon Brando‘s performance playing Don Vito Corleone, and all the other great actors including Al Pacino and Robert De Niro in the following sequels. The Godfather was mainly shot in New York, but the scenes set in Corleone were filmed in Fiumefreddo di Sicilia (near Catania), Forza D’Agrò, Savoca and Motta Camastra (in the province of Messina), that were also chosen for The Godfather II, while the Massimo Theatre in Palermo is the setting of one of the key scenes of The Godfather III.

The bay has been inhabited since antiquity. The natural and Culturo-Historical Region of Kotor has been a World Heritage Site since 1979.

“A visit to the Kya Kat Wai Monastery in Bago, Myanmar, at lunchtime, the main meal of the day. An interesting way to learn about Myanmar Buddhist Monastic Life."

Aegean Odyssey is docked in Lanzarote today and some guests have ventured ashore to explore Timanfaya National Park. The unique landscape and amazing geological features have made Timanfaya one of the most important national parks in Spain. The absence of wildlife creates an apparent calm and silence and the land is still bubbling beneath the surface.

In all cabins aboard Aegean Odyssey you will find a QuietVox. These little boxes emphasise your included tour experiences by allowing you to hear everything that your expert guide points out, even if you're five or six paces behind. All you have to do is turn it on, place the headphone on your ear and wait for it to find the right channel. You'll never miss a thing!
TOP TIP: It helps if you remember to place it back in the charger in your cabin when you arrive back on board, so it's fully charged for your next tour. ;)
