Craig and Debbie had a one to one today with their Lab Kenny π Kenny pulls on the lead when he goes for a walk, so Craig and Debbie wanted some training and guidance on how to motivate Kenny to walk nicely πΎ What we learnt - β’ Kenny isnβt motivated by food β’ He has a negative association towards his lead... β’ Walks are not always enjoyable for Craig and Debbie
What we achieved - β’ Nice heelwork which was rewarded with a toy reinforcement β’ Creating a positive association towards the lead β’ How to enjoy a walk with Kenny whilst training him to walk nicely
Fantastic work from both owners. Well done πͺππ

Max started puppy classes last week with his owner Marcus πΆ Max struggled to cope with all the different distractions in class, and through frustration began to bark. Handsome Archie is 6 months old π he is extremely sociable towards dogs and people so his owners booked a 1-1 to focus on his recall and connection whilst on walks πΎ Archieβs owners now have more of an understanding of- β’ using the right cue to recall him and when it should be used β’ what motivates Archie to come back when called β’ understanding that distractions need to be built into the plan gradually... β’ how to build a reinforcement history β’ how to build connection whilst on a walk β’ how to have engagement with Archie and make him want to be with them and ignore distractions The result was one very tired dog πΆπ€

Does your dog run off to other dogs? Are you scared to let your dog off lead? Won't it listen to you outside? Does it only behave if there are no distractions?
... Helen and Vinny this morning
It's not the whistle that drives the recall, it's the reward.
Vinny is highly sociable and food just wasn't rewarding enough to get a reliable recall in the presence of other dogs.
Effective positive training is about finding the right motivation for the individual dog AND building a reinforcement history so there is a strong desire in the opportunity to gain that reinforcement.
For help with recall and off lead connection call the office on 0161 762 0174 to book a appointment with Helen

We did vehicle searches today in Scentwork
All tools used unsafely are dangerous
The key to avoiding this type of situation is
1) Train your dog so you can control it off lead and it can run safely in open spaces.
... 2) Get a professional to show you how to use training aids properly and safely if you have a problem.
Retractable leads are certainly more hazardous than long training lines
If you want help with pulling on the lead and control off lead give us a call on 0161 762 0174 to book a home visit

If you have a spare couple of minutes could you click on the post and answer this question for my good friend Nathan
What have you been doing with your dogs today?
It was weekend 4 of the Instructor Course this weekend Thank you to all our customers who brought their dogs along. All the students are doing really well, their practical skills are outstanding, especially when it comes to working the dog in front on them. This weekend looked at progressive training with exercises for Obedience and Self Control Learning how to plan training sessions, taking foundation training to the next level, proofing behaviour, building sequences and using variable schedule reinforcement.
