About Walsall Bme Advice Centre

A volunteer led charity that supports homeless, improve community relations & overall health & wellbeing of individuals from disadvantaged communities.

Walsall Bme Advice Centre Description

Walsall BME advice centre is a volunteer led initiative established in July 2016 to support disadvantaged individuals from the Black Ethnic minority background.
Evidence from various local and national sources suggests that people from BME communities are lagging behind in many spheres of life such as, health, education, life chances, housing, interaction with wider society and influencing services that are crucial. As a result, the women, new migrant, people with minimal or no English are likely to struggle the most.
Individuals from BME background are less likely to engage with mainstream services due to different barriers hence often live in poverty and poor health and inadequate housing provisions. The disengagement can be due to multi facetted reasons; such as language barriers, lack of information, social stigma and cultural practice or belief.
We are aware of the fact that there are a number of community organizations promising to deliver some services that we have identified to deliver.
However, through our discussion and primary consultation, not many are actually accessing such services for different reasons. Therefore, this project aims to serve these groups and we believe there’s a genuine gap in service provisions for a genuine charity like ours.
