People of Walthamstow...
Do you agree with this bizarre statement about Harry Potter books? Do you let your kids read them? (I'd struggle to *stop* mine reading them)... #HarryPotterGate

Make sure you vote today.
Polls suggest it will be close, so if you care about the outcome then don't waste your vote!
The useful information below was copied from a useful post in Walthamstow parents.
... Remember, you get FOUR votes. They are as follows:
1 & 2: Mayoral preference vote. Your first vote will be counted, but if the person you vote for doesn't win, your second vote will be counted instead. There's no reason to use your first vote tactically - the big parties derive no real benefit from first votes so long as they pick up redistributed second votes.
3: London-wide Assembly Member. The London Assembly is sort of like the House of Lords for the Mayor, in that it can block his budget or amend his policies. City-wide seats on the assembly are allocated proportionally based on vote %, which is good, but it does mean that extreme parties can do quite well if the wider electorate ignores this poll. Again, no real use to tactical voting here. Just please don't ignore it.
4: Constituency Assembly Member. As above, this sends a member to the London Assembly, but this is done on a FPTP system in each Constituency. One of the two main parties usually win on this vote, frankly, but some previous races have been very close.
If you want to read up on the candidates then there's info here: https://www.londonelects.org.uk/im-voter/ who-you-can-vote

Lovely to see Google honouring Walthamstow's William Morris with this Google Doodle.
Happy 182nd Birthday to our favourite designer, poet, novelist, translator, and socialist activist.

Our hearts go out to those affected by the attacks in Paris.
We don't know yet who is responsible, but the aim of many terrorist acts is to terrorise enemies, mobilise supporters and polarise communities.
Communities like ours should not be divided by events like this. Walthamstow is stronger together. #parisattacks #prayforpeace #strongertogether

IMPORTANT! PLEASE TAKE ACTION: Walthamstow may lose its direct voice in parliament in the coming review of parliamentary constituencies. This will mean less of a say for people here in how laws are made.
In 2014 the Government changed the rules for voter registration. This means unless you have personally registered to vote yourself, you may not be on the electoral register after December 1 2015. In Walthamstow nearly 5,000 households could be affected.
... Don’t lose your vote! Register now here: https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote - you will need your National Insurance number to hand.
For more information, please read Stella Creasy's post on this: https://medium.com/…/three-reasons-why- you-should-register-…

Support the amazing The Mill on Coppermill Lane and bag a fantastic - and possibly staggeringly valuable - piece of art.
50 artists and local luminaries have created postcard art to be raffled from 9-17 October. The "very famous artists" are none other than the patron saint of the 'stow, Grayson Perry. Jeremy Deller, local artists, school kids and our very own Stella Creasy have created some small but beautiful works.
Buy your raffle tickets at the Mill or online here. All p...roceeds support The Mill and the emergency shelter.
Good luck and please share far and wide Walthamstow!

The awesome St Barnabas Arms pop up pub was a rip-roaring success....500+ customers in one weekend drunk local ales from the Wild Card Brewery and ate delicious Cypriot food from the Cyprus Kitchen, raising a whopping £1.5k to refurbish the 'green hut'.
What should our local vicar turn his hand to next? Pop-up curry house (pop-up poppadoms?)? Pop-up bakery? Vote below....

In our humble opinion, Grayson Perry should be the 'patron saint' of Walthamstow...we were lucky enough to see his incredible 'Walthamstow Tapestry' exhibited at the William Morris Gallery and will definitely visit his 'House for Essex' - anyone else planning a visit?

The market has an excellent choice from fruit and vegetables to various clothing stalls. A good vibe. It was my first time also to the Walthamstow Garden Party. Loved it. Topped off by Toots and the Maytals playing live on the Barbican Stage on Saturday evening.

My son & daughter in law moved into Walthamstow around 18 months ago so we're now regular visitors. It sounds cliched but I love the diversity and vibrancy of the place. From the gentile feel of Walthamstow Village to the buzz of the street market and places like Mirth, Marvel & Maude it has something for everyone - and, only 20 minutes by tube to Victoria. Great place.

User

Love Walthamstow for 5 years now and cannot imagine living somewhere else.

If you have a flat to sell 2beds with garden near Blackhorse rd tube or Walthamstow Central please contact We have nothing to sell but not so keen on the Dutch auction techniques used by some agents.

Fantastic Market, and selbourne walk shopping centre is very tidy. Easily accessible from the bus station.

User

Walthamstow is OK. There are Quite a lot of Shops in the Town. And I use to go to Whitefield School at the Hale End Road a long time ago. And I was there from November 1981 to July 1985.

User

The place is a mess. Beer cans sitting on garden walls. Rubbish all over the the place. Very dull, very drab.

User

Shit hole that's why I moved right away hope I don't never have to go back it's not for me

Walthamstow robs you blind with their cameras, please be careful whilst visiting Walthstow. I believe it's the second revenue earner in the UK with regards to cameras.
