Walton Academy Description

Walton Girls’ High School and Post 16 Centre

Walton Girls’ High School is an 11-18 Academy situated on Kitty Briggs Lane off Harlaxton Road on the outskirts of Grantham. The school became an academy in April 2011.

The school is easily accessible from the town and surrounding villages. It is served by the A607 and is only a short distance from the A1 north and south access roads and the A52. There are cycle paths and pedestrian footpaths in the surrounding area. For the safety of our students we ask, where possible, for students not transported by bus, to arrive at school on foot or cycle. Drop off points have been agreed at the nearby Urban Hotel, and The Premier Inn /The Farrier car parks.

Walton has a tradition of an orderly and caring environment and of high academic standards.

The school opened on its present site in 1966. Facilities are regularly refurbished and modernised making a very pleasant and secure environment on a single site which is particularly green and attractive with many mature trees surrounding the extensive sports field.

A purpose built Coeducational Post 16 Centre opened in September 2009. This provides superbly equipped facilities for Post 16 studies.

Walton Post 16

Walton, as a historically high performing 11 to 16 school, became eligible to apply for Sixth Form status in 2007. Building on our previous successes, a proven track record of providing a quality experience right across the board, we were thrilled to open our doors to our first Post-16 students in September 2008.

We seek the highest possible standards whilst ensuring that each individual member of the Post 16 Centre a challenging, demanding and rewarding environment in which to work.

Walton welcomes students from across the region to join our Post 16 Centre.

Our students have been working hard in time for tonight's first performance of Avenue Q. Come along to see the show, running this week from 26 - 28 March.
Winner of the Tony "Triple Crown" for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book, Avenue Q School Edition is part flesh, part felt, and packed with heart.
The laugh-out-loud musical tells the timeless story of a recent college grad named Princeton who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q. He soon d...iscovers that although the residents seem nice, it's clear that this is not your ordinary neighbourhood. Together, Princeton and his new-found friends struggle to find jobs, dates, and their ever-elusive purpose in life.
Filled with gut-busting humour and a delightfully catchy score, not to mention puppets, Avenue Q School Edition is a truly unique show that has quickly become a favourite for audiences everywhere.

Year 7 students had the chance to meet author Darren Simpson today as he visited the academy.
Darren, who lives in Nottingham, talked about his debut children's book Scavengers - a coming-of-age story about a boy called Landfill with an unforgettable secret at its heart.
During the visit, he shared the inspiration behind the setting and characters for his book and answered students' questions on how to become a published writer.
... It was a thoroughly engaging event which will hopefully inspire our students to read more and develop their own storytelling imaginations. Sincere thanks to Darren and to the Lincs Children's Book Group - LCBG for making the author visit possible.
