The Longest Journey Begins With a Single Step! And last evening, at Glenmore House, those members of Walton on Thames Lodge who had not, in haste, made a retreat to the bar, welcomed our latest Initiate, Bro. Neil Wray into the Lodge. Neil's Grandfather was a Mason, and although he died shortly before Neil was born, Neil always wanted to follow his Grandfather's example. And watching the members of Walton on Thames Lodge take part in the Remembrance Day Parade, was what made Neil realise that now was probably the time to make that step. Brethren, please feel free to Welcome, via this page, Bro. Neil to our fold. I'm sure he will buy you a beer when he sees you, if you do.🍻

Sadly, our Lodge Clairvoyant, due to unforeseen circumstances, was unable to join the “Walton on Thames Posse” when they attended Dormer Lodge on Saturday. But he did make this prediction. He said “During the year, whilst some Lodges will hand their Warrants in, a few new Lodges will be formed. And that whilst a few Lodges will experience decline, many will flourish and grow.” And if he had attended on Saturday, he would have sensed immediately, that Dormer Lodge will grow. ...Why? Because whilst that have had serious challenges to face, they have done just that. And are now the better for it. They have a young Master Elect (even though no one can pronounce his name) who will continue the work. We were treated to a wonderful Initiation. A few of the guests had to take part, but the Floor work was confident and precise. Delivered at just the right pace. Dormer Lodge is what Freemasonry should be. Local and enjoyable. Meeting on Saturdays, means the Lodge is perfect for those who, through work commitments, have difficulty attending weekday meetings. It’s amazing what you can achieve, if you try!

Just look at the rubbish you find on Walton High Street! No, not the four members of Walton on Thames Lodge. It may have been too cold for them to roll up their trouser legs, but they made no secret of the fact that they were prepared to join the Community Clean Up of Walton Town Centre, this morning. Organised by WOTTA. Between them the 36 volunteers filled, in just 1 hour, over 30 sacks with litter they had picked up. Mostly cigarette butts.

Walton on Thames Lodge is said, by some, to be at the forefront of modern Freemasonry. With it's members largely being residents of Walton on Thames we are very much a local, community Lodge. Many of our members are also members of Esher Rugby Club, another organisation very much at the heart of Walton, and Hersham life. With members in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s (some whose Mother Lodge is in London) it's true to say we have not only a very eclectic, but very experienced and enthusiastic membership. Many seem to have forgotten that modern Freemasonry is about Fun. Walton has not. Far from it!

So 2018 makes way for 2019, As always, it will be a year of challenges and opportunities. Challenges are there to be accepted, so accept them. Opportunities are there to be grasped, so grasp them. If we do, we might well surprise ourselves. All the members of Walton on Thames Lodge wish everyone a very Happy, Healthy and successful New Year.
