Waterstones Southampton Westquay Description

With an unparalleled range of books, from the latest bestsellers to old classics, Waterstones is one of the best loved names on the high street.

At Southampton Westquay we are a welcoming first ‘port of call’ for cruise ship passengers and our wide range of local titles reflect all aspects of our beautiful surrounding area.

We have a large children's department and pride ourselves on having strong links with local schools and the wider community. There's something for everyone here, not just books but a wide range of stationery and gifts for both adults and children.

We also have a full events programme throughout the year and host many book signings with authors and celebrities from a wide variety of genres.

Our friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff will happily recommend you the best books – or just help you find the one you already know you want.

We also have Southampton's best-kept coffee secret - with fabulous views of the town's medieval walls set within a contemporary setting, our bespoke Café W offers a mouth-watering locally sourced menu and a unique blend of truly tremendous coffee.

Kevin Keegan is one of the undisputed giants of English football, in his capacity as player and manager. He was at the peak of his form when he joined Southampton in 1980 and his popularity with fans has never abated. We are delighted to welcome him to sign copies of his new book My Life in Football.
This event is no longer ticketed, but we anticipate that it will be busy so please arrive early and expect a wait!

As part of our Conversations in the Cafe series of events, we are delighted to welcome author Frances Maynard. Frances' first book 'The Seven Imperfect Rules of Elvira Carr' has earned its place on our 'Uplifting' fiction table, alongside 'Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine', and is a funny, heartwarming and ultimately triumphant story, perfect for anyone who doesn't quite fit in and for anyone who chooses not to.
Elvira Carr is twenty-seven, neuro-atypical, and has never li...ved alone. But her father – who she suspects was in the secret service – is dead, and when her mother has a stroke and is taken into care, Elvira suddenly finds herself home alone. In order to cope, Elvira – who knows a lot about biscuits and supermarkets, but not much about life – develops Seven Rules for interacting with others. Not even her rules can help her, however, when she’s faced with solving a mystery she didn’t know existed . . .
This is a free event but spaces are limited, so please email Nichola Gale on events.southampton@waterstones.com to reserve yours.

Join us at the wonderful SeaCity Museum for a chaired discussion with Patrick as he discusses his latest novel And The Ocean Was Our Sky. As with all Patrick’s novels, each one defies genre and takes a new and surprising turn and his new book is no exception. Inspired by Moby Dick, this stunning reimagining takes the perspective of the whale, turning the world upside down so the land of men becomes the abyss, and the ocean floor is their sky. Examining the power of prophecy a...nd the relentless and hopeless nature of war, this modern fable will have much to examine for young people and adults alike.
Spaces for this event are limited so we suggest booking early to avoid disappointment. Tickets can only be booked through the SeaCity Museum (02380 834536) - £18.00 to include ticket and a copy of 'And the Ocean Was Our Sky', £8.00 ticket only for under 16's)

We are VERY excited to see the first trailer for the movie adaptation of Ann Patchett’s ‘Bel Canto’. If you haven’t read it yet, do - it’s a brilliant and surprising novel of music, love, passion and pride during a hostage situation, loosely based on true events.

I just wanted to drop a line and say thank you.

Yesterday, our family dog passed away.

I needed a way to explain to our four year old what had happened and I heard there maybe a book that could help.

I spoke to a lady, so sorry do not know her name, who recommended three wonderful books that would help.

I bought one of the books and read it to my daughter shortly after, it really did helped.

So the lady who helped me around 1130 in the children’s books section, please thank her for me.

Excellent customer services in a sensitive situation.

Haven't visited this store for a while but I went today. I LOVED the new cafe. Not sure how long it has been open for but it was a real gem of a find. I will definitely choose this place again over the other coffee shops available within West Quay. Well done on something a bit different to the usual coffee shop chains. The new decor throughout the shop also looked good, especially the children's books area. So inviting and how book shops should be.

While shopping in Southampton our family like to pop into Waterstones for tea and cakes and find them to be good value.

Our only negative comment would be.

It would be nice if the staff on duty said thank you as you left, after spending many years in the tourist industry it was considered 'bad manners' not to acknowledge customers on departure.

User

I like to pop in and browse the books while having a coffee. It would be nice if they did more savoury vegan snacks. As I’m dairy intolerant. Sometimes I get lucky with their vegan cake. But something savoury would nice. Apart from that. Books and beverages. My ideal afternoon.

User

Always jealous when I read about author events (eg crime evenings) at other branches up and down the country. Southampton used to have well known authors visit but haven't been aware of this happening for a long time. We always seem to miss out on authors' book signing tours. Come on Southampton! Get in on the act! Don't let London have them all!

User

A great place to escape from the world and enter another one whilst sipping Earl Gray! Also the staff were friendly
