WHATS BEEN HAPPENING IN OUR NURSERIES? WATOTO ROTHERHAM..
Over the past two weeks in our butterfly room, the children have been exploring taking risks.
Firstly, the children came outside and stared to climb on the tunnel, after succeeding in this they looked for another challenge. Our practitioners suggested building something else to climb on. By using their own initiative ... the children then used various equipment to make their own obstacle courses to climb on and crawl through. They worked together to solve problems when pieces fell off and celebrated each other success as they made it around the course. Our staff were present to offer reassurance and to supervise but the children were the leaders in their own ideas.
We shared this on Tapestry for our parents to see and one parent commented the following day expressing “how proud she was of her daughter” and was initially a little scared but her daughter reassured her by saying “its ok mummy, I can do it” with a very proud look on her face.

Our Pre-school manager, Sharon Brown, has recently completed the ‘Early Years SENCo Award’. Sharon is one of 21 SENCo’s the whole of Sheffield that where chosen to take part in the first cohort of individuals.
The aim of this award is to give each SENCo and their EYFS setting extra confidence to effectively support their children and families. As a result of this award, with this extra knowledge Sharon has gained, she will continue to implement this within both of our nurser...y settings.
On the 5th July, each individual received their achievement certificate at Sheffield Town Hall.
Sharon commented on her time during the course by saying “the ‘Early Years SENCo award’ has helped me to consolidate my knowledge and understanding gained during my eight years of working with SEND children. I thoroughly enjoyed this learning experiment and was supported by my tutor and as a team we supported each other through the whole process. It has given me the tools in order to continue making positive outcomes for our children and their families. Anyone who is wanting to further their career and knowledge in SEND, I would highly recommend”.
We at Watoto are all extremely proud of all the hardworking and dedication Sharon has put into receiving this award.

WHATS BEEN HAPPENING IN OUR NURSERIES? WATOTO ROTHERHAM..
Over the past two weeks in our caterpillar room, our babies have been very busy exploring textures and finding their voices.
They have been playing with a variety of items that make different noises and feel different to touch. They enjoyed tummy time on the fur rug while playing with the natural shakers. We noticed that one child likes to scratch with his fingers, so we looked for items that would make different noise...s where he scratched them. We gave him a tin, an upside-down rug and textured paper. He really enjoyed running his hands across the different surfaces and listening to the noises he could make.
This term, we have taken part in a number of singing activities with the babies. A parent commented and said “he’s so much more vocal at home”. Which was so lovely for us to hear.
