About Weldmar Hospicecare

Weldmar Hospicecare is a charity that provides end of life care for people living in Dorset who need our specialist support. All our care is free and reliant on public donations.

Weldmar Hospicecare Description

Weldmar Hospicecare is a charity that provides end of life care for people living in Dorset who need our specialist support. Our compassionate approach supports patients and their families, medically and in other ways, in the community, in our hospice and at home.

All our care is free and reliant on public donations.

We employ nurses, doctors, therapists, social workers, and offer counselling services. We work in patients’ homes, our hospice and the community, supported by trained volunteers.

Weldmar Hospicecare is an independent charity only working in Dorset. 25% of our funds are provided by the NHS – 75% of our funds are raised thanks to the support of our local community.

Weldmar Hospicecare cares for patients with cancer and other progressive conditions, such as motor neurone disease, who require our specialist help.

We aim to ensure all patients needing end of life care in Dorset have access to excellent services delivered when and where needed whether by Weldmar, or by others supported by us. We work alongside our colleagues in health and social care to ensure that we meet the individual needs of patients and their families.

We seek to improve the quality of life for those people by bringing relief from pain and other distressing symptoms.

We provide inpatient care at Joseph Weld Hospice in Dorchester.

We help enable patients to live as actively as possible and enable the family to cope throughout the patient’s illness.

We provide day services at Trimar Hospice in Weymouth, Joseph Weld Hospice in Dorchester, Yeatman Hospital in Sherborne, and in Blandford and Bridport Community Hospitals.

Our services also include physiotherapy, occupational therapy, chaplaincy, complementary therapy and creative arts, together with child and family support and bereavement care.

Our Weldmar Community Nurses visit patients at home, in care homes and in community hospitals

The NHS contribute 25% of our costs, leaving Weldmar needing to raise £10, 240 per day to fund our free of charge services through fundraising and our chain of twenty charity shops and six outlets.

Back in the summer of 2018, we launched our Patient Comfort Appeal Part 2 - our goal was to raise a total of £27,932 to buy 14 new chairs and their accompanying accessories to replace the current ones beside our patients beds, and thanks to your generosity, we were able to achieve that goal! Since the chairs are easily moveable, patients will be able to move more freely, to go outside in good weather, or just to leave their room and meet friends and family in our café. You have helped us to provide renewed comfort and confidence for our patients staying in our inpatient unit - THANK YOU

A massive thank you to Fay, Andy, Danny, Alisha and Leah who braved the freezing cold waters on Christmas Day in aid of Weldmar Hospicecare, as they all took on the Harbour Day Swim in Weymouth, as pictured here. My mother was only there for 36 hours, but prior to that Debbie visited home several times. The advice was gratefully received and when Mum was admitted the staff were kind and considerate.

The building is well designed, and the grounds provide nice views.

Don't forget to leave a donation, it is a charity.

User

My lovely Nana was only here for a very short 5 days in November.

Coming from a very difficult 7 months and a particularly distressing 3 weeks in hospital, the moment we walked in through your doors we were all greeted with so much warmth, kindness, calmness and generosity. Thank you to every single one of the amazing nurses, doctors and staff.

The respect and care you gave my lovely Nana for her last few days was absolutely incredible. She became so calm and relaxed and you allowed us as a family to spend some very special moments together, for that we will always be grateful.

Although the pain of grief is so crippling, we feel so calm with the end my Nana had.

You are all true angels and the words thank you will never be enough x

A very special place for end of life, with very caring people

User

A truly wonderful service for patients and their families. I have previously worked here as agency staff. It is without doubt, the best healthcare facility I have worked in. Both for the service provided to patients/families, and excellent staff and ward management. There is actually suitable staff provision to enable you to provide care the patients require without being rushed. Other healthcare providers could learn a lot about superb standards of patient care and staff management.
