West Green Road / Seven Sisters Development Trust Description
West Green Road / Seven Sisters Development Trust was set up in 2008 by four members of Wards Corner Community Coalition (WCC) and is a non-profit company Limited by Guarantee. The four Trustees are local community and business leaders Carlos Burgos, Raul Mancera, Victoria Alvarez and Lagu Sukumaran. WCC formed in 2007 to halt the proposed demolition of Wards Corner at Seven Sisters, the gateway to Tottenham. The Trust’s first project is to deliver the community plan to restore the Wards building, a former Edwardian department store of heritage value, bringing empty space back into use for community facilities, art and performance space, social and start-up enterprise, and retaining and improving the current multicultural indoor market. The market is one of two sites in London (the other being Elephant in Castle) catering specifically to Latin American groups, providing food, goods and dedicated community, legal and language services. In May 2014, the community plan received planning permission and the ground floor was listed as an asset of community value.
