On this day (June 24) in 1964, the Lord Mayor of Liverpool laid the first brick of the first dwelling on New Church Farm development site, which was part of Skelmersdale New Town.
New Church Farm was a scheme comprising approximately 600 dwellings with garages and shops on a 16 hectares site to the east of the existing town.
