What an awesome day out surfing we had! The instructor (finny) was fun and brilliant, he had us standing up and catching waves in no time at all. I can’t recommend learning to surf with these guys enough and will most definitely be going back for more lessons!

What a fantastic experience! I've always wanted to try out surfing and love watching it on TV, YouTube etc. So when an opportunity came up to visit Cornwall for a week I searched around and found Joel's and Naomi's surf school. I booked in for 3 beginners sessions. Joel explained clearly the safety aspects and techniques. The waves were perfect for beginners and Watergate Bay is beautiful setting. Joel provided great encouragement and before long I was up and away! I'm looking at the photo's on the FaceBook page and starting to mull over when I can return!

We had two 2 hr sessions with Joel & Kai this week and had an incredible time. Our group ranged from kids aged 7 - 13 and a bunch of not so flexible but keen dads in their 40s. The instructing was excellent and the personal approach, attention and care given to everyone, whatever age, was top notch.



They had everyone, even the kids, up and standing on their boards catching waves by the end of the second day. So many smiles.



If you're in Watergate Bay and wanting a slice of the surf then this is the place to go. Can't wait to go back.

We booked both our children in for a lesson with Joel, they both had a brilliant time and managed to stand up despite the conditions being far from perfect for beginners. My son was a bit apprehensive to start with but the encouragement he got from Joel was just what he needed to get into the water and have a go. He now wants to go back again, enough said. If you want to learn to surf safely I could not recommend westcountry surf school highly enough.

Such a friendly fun team of knowledgable surf instructors. 😊

My sister and her parter has a lesson with a Joel last year and spoke very highly of the lesson. They treated our girls to a lesson this week whilst we were down near Newquay on holiday. The girls had Rob as teacher and they had an amazing time and really enjoyed the experience, Rob quickly taught the basics in a fun (Hong King Phooey ) way !

My year old started off being a little apprehensive but Rob is clearly experienced in building up confidence quickly and teaching them to be independent as quickly as possible, her confidence spiked and she loved it !

Thank you Rob for a really lovely time and we will be back next year ( Evie still wants a board for Christmas ) .

If you are looking to learn to surf then this is the best surf school there is. My boyfriend and I have been out with Joel twice, once for a couples lesson then with friends and their children last year. Yesterday my nieces had their first ever surf lesson with Rob. Both Joel and Rob were absolutely brilliant instructors, extremely knowledgable and encouraging. My youngest niece was a little apprehensive, but she stood up on her very first wave and then we had a job persuading her to come out of the sea at the end of the lesson �. She now wants a surf board for Christmas and was practicing everything Rob had taught her last night. Thank you so much guys we had a great time again and would definitely recommend that anyone wanting to learn to surf or improve their surfing has lessons with you

I would return & recommend to anyone in the area!

It has exceeded my expectations on every single level.



Right from the very beginning, you feel like you were really important & valuable part of the surfing family and not as if you were just buying a service and never to be seen again. That personal touch won me over instantly!



Joel was very flexible and accommodating and worked around my schedule to fit in the lessons 3 days in a row. It all felt very personalised with daily text messages and staying in touch when needed. His lifelong experience as a lifeguard on the Cornish beaches adds a lot to the safety aspect. There's plenty of equipment for different age groups, experience levels, etc. Group and single lessons are also available & free parking for motorbikes (yay!!). Bean bags for chilling out after the session and free water for hydration!



Knowing myself and how uncoordinated I am I wasn't expecting I'd be able to stand up so quickly! So much fun! You really got to try it!

I had a lesson with Joel at West Country Surf School a couple of weeks ago and it was worth every penny, I was surprised at how quickly he got myself and the others in the group standing up and surfing. Joel is an awesome instructor who clearly loves what he does.. I visit Newquay a few times a year and I will be heading back for more lessons when I get the chance, If you are on the fence then sit there no longer... Just do it, you won't regret it...

Had a fantastic week in beautiful Cornwall this autumn, weather was amazing!

Booked the 5 day course with Joel, unfortunately the waves were bad most of the days, so we only got surfing for 2 days out of the 5 booked, which was a real disappointment. Despite this Joel managed to have me and my friend catching waves and on are feet after are first lesson and we had a real grasp of the basics of surfing.

Can’t wait for are next trip down to Cornwall so we can carry on where we left of! With some better waves, Fingers crossed!!

Joel makes the teaching very informative and we even got a round of golf in with him!

Had a couple of lessons with Loric and Joel last week. The conditions were perfect. Watergate Bay was perfect. The equipment was perfect. The guys were perfect.

Looking forward to returning with a healthy knee to challenge the wife for the honour of star surfer 😃😃🏄‍♂️🥇

Couldn’t believe I was standing up catching waves in what felt like no time. Will defo be booking more lessons when I’m back in Cornwall.

Brilliant! Joel was really patient and was very encouraging, i would definitely recommend him as an instructor and definitely worth the money!! Feel like i want to go out n practice now. Thank you

Absolutely brilliant company. Very professional outfit. Joel was a pleasure to deal with and Paul aka Finny a very patient instructor! They went out of there way to make the experience memorable! Much more approachable than alternative companies in the area.

Absolutely amazing! We had the best time surfing with West Country surf school. As someone who has never surfed before and a little apprehensive about my first time, my nerves were instantly eased as soon as the lesson started. The guys were professional yet fun and so encouraging. I never thought I'd be able to stand on a surf board after 2 hours but I did and it was all down to these guys! If you're thinking about surfing - definitely do it with these guys!
