Used the facilities for my son's 2nd birthday party. Communication before hand was fantastic, very warm welcome when we arrived. We set up our food in the room that was all laid out for us. And used the sports hall with all toys and activities, the young lady who accompanied us in the hall and checked back while we were eating was lovely. It really made my day a lot easier. Thank you to all the staff. See you next year!!

User

Great activities and friendly staff, my kid enjoys it every time we go!

I have been attending Westgate Leisure centre for about 23 years so have seen many changes over the years. The current refurbishments do take a toll on the staff and customers but luckily the staff here are all fantastic, whether it is in the gym, the cleaners, management or recreational staff, they are all on hand if you have a question, no matter how many times you may pester them!

The new gym layout is extremely daunting, so will take some getting used to. For the 'hardcore' gym goers, it is fabulous as they have an abundance of machines and free weights but it is daunting for us middle aged, unsure users but thankfully, the staff are always willing to assist.

The health suite could do with updating and deep cleaning, it is rather grubby and outdated but still a lovely area to use. The steam room is not great for anyone who is a little unstable on their feet as there are no safety bars or grips anywhere. I am disabled, with mobility issues. The disabled changing room is great but there is only one in the health suite so when it is in use, the female changing room is usable but again, with no hand rail in the shower cubicles, it is not the safest for some users.

There is also a new cafe area which to be honest, although it looks marvellous and is very comfortable, there is a larger area for children to rampage through and scream in, so it would be great if the parents would control them better. Walking through with a hot drink and children using the area like a jungle gym, is never a good combination! It is also difficult to find healthier snack options, which for a health centre is quite surprising, along with the new cafe has arrived a new variety of chocolates, crisps and biscuits.

Overall, the centre is great, I would recommend it. The staff are brilliant!

User

Classes are good and the new gym is great. Sineage outside says to exercise 30 mins a day 5 days a week but then the fist thing you are confronted with when you enter the lobby are 4 vending machines full of rubbish! crisps, sweets and sugary drinks . Doesn't really sit right with me.

User

As a first time to Westgate leisure centre I found the Swimming facilities are fantastic lovely and clean Changing rooms very good with plenty of lockers and private cubicles. On the down side after Swimming we went to Cafe Ravenna (4 Adults & 1 Child) for two Coffee's one Tea a coke, Rubens and cake, so on ordering said order Sorry we close at 16.30 and the coffee machine is all cleaned . . . My reply but it's only 16.15 your open fir another 15 minutes . . . I know but we are closed. Not happy with poor service. It doesn't encourage me to return

User

Mixed feelings about Westgate. So, the gym staff are amazing and the guy who signs you up for gym membership is brilliant too. The lifeguards are always happy to help put the stairs in for me as I'm disabled and have some limited mobility. The Jacuzzi and sauna area are really nice, although the other day me and a friend went in to find several children in the Jacuzzi, climbing all over it. None the less, love this little area. The disabled changing facilities for the pool, on the other hand, need a lot of work. The toilets are always dirty when I go in, and the other day the shower fell on me because the shower holder is broken. I was lucky not to have been sat down at that point because it would have landed on my head. I tend to have to ask to have the disabled facilities opened for me, and when I don't, low and behold, someone just walks in with her kids. I understand it's easier for a family but there are family changing facilities available literally next door, and group changing with a shower 5 metres away. I understand it's difficult to police this, but as I have suggested several times, using a radar key system would save both staff and disabled members the stress of being able to access these facilities. My main point though would be please please please deep clean those disabled toilets. They are disgusting and unhygienic. What's more, many people suffering with disabilities have a lower immune system, so this is a big problem for me.

Overall I'm 50/50 about the place but I look forward to the refurbishment when it's finished, and the gyms great too :)

User

I go everyweek sometimes more, swimming with my boy.the water slide is never open.you may be lucky to get a bit of slide action for hour or so at weekend..

Well I have some advise, each time you go, when leaving go to reception an complain about slide because on website it says slide opens everyday.

They always say when shortstaffed the slide is first thing to go......yet theirs always loads of staff place is joke.staff couldn't careless....

User

Air con in the main gym never works, on a warm day it's like having a work out in an oven

Cleanliness in the changing rooms isn't great

User

My family use your facilities often for swimming and active antz sessions.

On the 25th August we had a lunch in your cafe where we waited nearly an hour for a black omlette to brought out to the man serving us to say "is that ok shall i recook another one" i would have said yes apart from my son had already finished his lunch whilst i was waiting for mine and being 2years old was becoming restless and bored so i left it. The cheese inside wasn't even warm or slightly melted it was a shame. We decided we wouldn't use your cafe again.

This Friday 8th September we were again at your facility. This time we had the disappointment of waiting nearly half hour for the small pool to be open after aquagym. We usually come the same time on a Friday and they have a section in the large pool. I was managing really well to keep my autistic 2year old occupied when i get approached by a member of staff who tells me we need to "quieten down as they are using a small side room for relaxing massages" i was astounded. I am sitting in your seating area pretty much in reception!! Why do u have massages going on downstairs by the front entrance!! U have a huge building and your telling ppl to be quiet. Active antz was just finishing with 50 excitable hypa children due to charge out any minute yet ppl sitting down with a coffee etc must b quiet!!!!!

User

I tried to use the gym for the first time in a long time. I had lost my gym card and so was unable to access the gym area. I waited at the Gym front desk for 5mins and I couldn't see a member of staff so I went back down to Main Reception. The receptionist told me in a most unhelpful way that I should go back up as there should be someone there. She didn't offer to help in anyway - for example by ringing the staff member to let him know I was waiting to gain entrance to the gym. I went back up to the Gym and waited another 5 mins trying to get the attention of the one member of staff who was present. He either didn't see me or didn't want to as he was showing another gym customer the equipment. After waiting for 10 mins and looking like a lemon - I drove back home and went for a jog instead. Not the greatest first experience of the gym particularly as I had made the time to go there and asked someone else to look after my 2 young children so I could go!

User

Waiting for a call to discuss our complaint.....not happy with the service we received or the lack of people skills your staff have! Rude, and disgusting.

I paid good money for a party, left messages for someone to contact us, and shocker......no one has.

User

Timetables on the website are all wrong. So a 20 minute journey was wasted. But never mind, 'management are aware' that they are wrong...shame they don't care enough to sort it out. They were happy to refund my car park ticket though if I'd cart my toddler all the way back to the car to retrieve it. Very cross and got an upset 2 year old, thanks so much!

User

There are always pool closures over the weekend- and the only way to find out is to call (where reception rarely pick up the phone) or check this Facebook page!? What about people who don't have facebook? Or even the internet?!

A new system needs to be set up whereby your members are notified when the pool is closed. Having been a member at Goodwood and other gyms, members used to receive a courtesy call to let members know when the pool is out of action.

I have left Westgate disappointed on atleast 3 occasions due to not being notified when the pool is closed. I have even got dressed and entered the pool only to be told the pool would be closed in 5 minutes due to a kids party!! When asked how I could have known about this, a member of staff said there were signs all around the leisure centre! I looked for the signs, there were none. Just a peice of paper behind reception- not very helpful for members. Being 36 weeks pregnant at the time, I was disgusted with the communication and felt extremely undervalued as a member.

Instead of trying to squeeze as much cash out of people for kids parties, try looking out for your members who diligently and loyally pay for your services every month instead!!

User

Phoned prior to our swimming with my two boys to be told swimming would be on until 9pm arrived at 5pm got changed and out to the pool to say we couldn't swim because lessons were being held!

Got told if waited till 6 the other poxy lil pool would be open.

Disappointed specially after phoning beforehand and sending a message via here to get no reply

User

Left messages, emails and repeatedly tried calling regarding my sons swimming lessons. No response and they never answer the phone! Been trying for over a week now. Poor customer service!!

User

I have tried contacting everyone active by private message on Facebook and by telephone and they are unresponsive. How do you get their membership team to speak to you?

User

I find the website very difficult to use to find any specific information. The contact links do not give me the opportunity of asking my question! I have had to resort to social media which does not make me at all happy.

User

Do not bring small children here to use the toddler pool. It is not heated, it’s really bloody cold in fact. My sons lips turned blue within a few minutes of being in there and we had to take him out. £16 for the family to go swimming and felt it was a total waste of money.

User

Customer service is SHOCKING! I've left voice mails everyday this week and still can't speak to anyone about swimming lessons. They are over filled (12 children in a maximum of 9 per class) and very inconsistent with the teachers too.

Left messages, emails and repeatedly tried calling regarding my sons swimming lessons. No response and they never answer the phone! Been trying for over a week now. Poor customer service!!

Do not bring small children here to use the toddler pool. It is not heated, it’s really bloody cold in fact. My sons lips turned blue within a few minutes of being in there and we had to take him out. £16 for the family to go swimming and felt it was a total waste of money.

Customer service is SHOCKING! I've left voice mails everyday this week and still can't speak to anyone about swimming lessons. They are over filled (12 children in a maximum of 9 per class) and very inconsistent with the teachers too.
