WESTHOUGHTON GOLF CLUB Catering - next 10 days Members should be aware that Ann's father in law died over the weekend. Our thoughts are with Tony, Ann and their family.
There may be some gaps in coverage with catering over the next 10 days or so, but the team will all help out and hopefully, at least all key days / societies / functions will be managed.
... The bar will only be open until 8 pm this evening and may shut at other quiet times (Tuesday / Thursday afternoons etc.) so please bear with us.

Office hours this week are therefore:... Monday 14:30 - 19:00 Tuesday 17:30 - 19:30 Wednesday 08:00 - 11:00 Friday 08:00 - 13:00

WESTHOUGHTON GOLF CLUB Mr Wayne Anderton I am sorry to have to inform members of the sudden death of Wayne at the age of 60. It is a great shock given that he was last here enjoying himself on Captain's Day.
Wayne and Diane have been members for the past 3 years and I sure that members will wish me to pass on the Club's sympathies to Diane, family and friends
... The Club flag will fly at half mast until after his funeral, details of which will be circulated as soon as known.

WESTHOUGHTON GOLF CLUB Collaboration with Hindley Hall Golf Club Discussions have been taking place with HHGC about the possibility of collaboration in a number of areas of mutual benefit which may develop further over time as members of each club wish. Initially we have agreed a reciprocal club-type agreement where, if a club has spare capacity, and the other has an event on, then players from each club can use that spare capacity. The initial trial of this takes place on Fr...iday / Saturday when HHGC host the Victory Shield so their members can reserve tee slots (around pre-reserved WGC members times - effectively around the regular rollups and other normally used times. Council has approved this early arrangement and members will be informed of how this could develop.

WESTHOUGHTON GOLF CLUB Congratulations to Lady Captain... ..for winning the England Golf Medal (womens) North Regional Qualifier at Prenton Park yesterday in what were extremely difficult conditions (the competition which was open to all club qualifying competition winners, ended up as a Reduction Only Competition as the CSS for the day was 75).
Lisa's round of gross 94 (net 70) was obviously exceptional.
... She now (together with the other top 10 qualifiers from each region) qualifies for the Final to be held at England Golf's showpiece facility at Woodall Spa to be played in mid-August.
Now back to Earth, Lisa, and on to the Bell Cup knockout against Shaw Hill this afternoon off your new reduced handicap!

Family Fun Day

WESTHOUGHTON GOLF CLUB Captains' Charity Fun Day The Captains have asked me to thank everyone who contributed to making the Charity Fun Day such a success - not only everyone who worked so hard on the day, as ever the volunteering spirit of so many members is overwhelming, but also those whose normally peaceful Saturday golf was disrupted.
From the raffle raising a net £140, Lady Captain's face painting - £100, the crazy golf, photobooth, the NERF shooting gallery, Tom Briggs... with his snooker challenge, the bouncy castle and everything raised a marvellous £516 for the Alzheimers' Society.
A special thank to Ann for all her work in organising stands and the entertainment, as well as providing food and drink throughout the day.
The raffle was won by Brad Eckersley and the Captain will present this on an appropriate occasion.
Once again, a huge thank you!

WESTHOUGHTON GOLF CLUB Weekly update: Friday 24th May Another Bank Holiday almost upon us. The forecast is varied, but hopefully we can avoid the majority of the showers.
A late addition to the May diary - the Ladies Bell Cup team, after two successful matches, will be playing their 3rd Round match against Shaw Hill on Monday afternoon with the first tee reserved from 13:30 until 15:00.
... There are a couple of singles Knockout matches and 4BBB matches still to play by close of play on Monday. Please give way.
Some disruption on the course tomorrow because of the Captains' Charity Family Fun Day. Once the Ladies Competition finishes (probably around 1:15) the 18th hole will close to all until 5 pm (so if starting after 2, this should not be a problem. If anyone is playing a Knockout which will go the 18th, please go from the 17th green to the 16th (and use the stroke index for the 18th). Please also take extreme care when driving from the 15th tee after 12:30. Members are requested to consider using long irons / rescue clubs if playing social golf which everyone probably will be. Apologies, but this is necessary to protect children from balls being played to the 18th green.
It is hoped that many will attend and a large sum is raised for the Alzeimers Society - obviously the majority will be from the town itself and some of the children may grow up to be junior members of the future. Please be aware of them at all times, especially around the clubhouse and crossing the car park to and from the bouncy castle.
Advance notification: as of Monday 3rd, the Clubhouse bar and facilities will be available until 10 p.m. (or slightly earlier if there are no cars in the car park).
