Westland Farm Shepherd Hut And Yurt Holidays Description

Here at Westland Farm we hope to provide a unique opportunity to escape the stress and strains of everyday life. We look forward to helping you relax and refresh during your holiday in the stunning, unspoilt surroundings of the North Devon countryside.
Westland Farm. Set amidst the lush, rolling countryside of North Devon, on the edge of Exmoor National Park and close to some truly spectacular beaches, ancient market towns and country pubs, Westland Farm is a little piece of heaven we wish to share with you.
Stay in our romantic Mongolian yurt, our comfortable farmhouse or our home built, and utterly charming, Shepherd’s Hut. You can even bring your own tent, or caravan, and camp in one of our fields. Whatever you decide, you’ll enjoy the same sense of tranquillity and blissful back-to-nature simplicity.
Both our Shepherd’s Hut and Yurt are close to a babbling brook – a great place for children to build dams or play pooh sticks. There are farm animals to meet and, in lambing season, lambs to feed, several people have been lucky enough to see lambs being born.
You can toast marshmallows over an open fire, nibble dew-shiny blackberries or sip your morning cuppa gazing out over sheep-dotted hills.
Here you’ve all the space and time you need to unwind….

Some lovely views this morning whilst getting the huts ready.

So September has come around and the sheep have returned to the camping fields. We've just found this lovely review and thought I'd post it, it's all we want people to feel whilst staying on our lovely Devon farm.
If you want a laid back camp site with lots of space and without an endless list of 'rules', then this will suit you. Campfires allowed, just dig yourself a quick firepit and help yourself to firewood. Everything from the washing machines, dryers, pick your own eggs, firewood, and farm produce (bacon, sausages, burgers) is all operated on an honesty box principle. Toilets and shower block was lovely and warm

What a lovely review. I should add that we don't recommend people sleep among the farm animals! They are kept separately from the camping field :)

We have had a fabulous Half term, with mostly fantastic weather. All our guests this week have been lovely, all the children played together and there was a great vibe about the place. I think the chickens are glad to have a rest though! Here's an email received from a family who left yesterday.. Connie and Pie and horses, while Cheryl and Katie are pigs by the way!
Hi Nicky
Thank you so much for our stay on your amazing farm - we all loved it! Despite inclement weathe...r - the kids could not wait to get up to look for eggs and ‘find you’ around the farm! Such a beautiful spot - we will be back! My son (who usually stays clear of animals) can not stop talking about Connie and Pie, Cheryl and Katie! Brilliant half term.
Thank you!
p.s. I’ve never stayed on a campsite with a tumble dryer - don’t know what I would have done with those towels without one

Please bare with us in answering your enquiries. We are just coming to the end of lambing and are trying our best to catch up with office work, as well as a million other jobs! Feel free to phone evenings after 8pm if you need to get a response urgently.

User

What a day! So far around 60 lambs have been born, one calf and it looks as though Katie the pig will be giving birth later in tonight too.

User

we stayed at Westland farm, we hired the yurt for a 40th birthday celebration, the yurt is fantastic has a toilet and kitchen next to it, we had family and friends in the field next to us and in the other two huts that are fantastic as well, Nick and Andy are very welcoming and helpful, the facilities are great, Showers, toilets, washing machine tumble dryer, fridge, stream, farm animals, a lovely place to stay, I loved it so much, I have booked for next year as well.

User

We went at the end of May to camp in our own tent and it was bliss, we actually felt like we had an holiday which can be very difficult with 2 small people. Loved exploring the local area and all the beaches (thanks to the info sheet) and the children now want to live on a farm, they were able to collect eggs for breakfast in the mornings, say hello to the sheep, horses, pigs etc and the facilities were great heated family hot shower room and toilet block, washing machine, fridge/freezer - thank you for a lovely stay we will be back.

User

We took our 6 year old grandson, and stayed in the Drovers Hut. It was cosy and the beds very comfortable. We also had a hot tub next to our decking and it was great to be sitting in it of an evening.

We had a stream to paddle in....and to wake up to the sheep in the field above us and the cattle in the field in front of our door, so was lovely to wake up to see them the calves and grown up cows. Our grandson loved fetching fresh eggs in the mornings and seeing the pig's......

..he also loved Tug the little farm dog

User

We stayed in the yurt for my 50th Birthday and friends that were not campers rented the Shepherds hut, Drovers hut and the B &B from the farm house for 3 days. Nicky could not have been more helpful answering all my questions . The beaches are amazing for days out or just chilling by the fire pit letting the kids play in the stream, I could not have gone any where better for my Birthday.

Thank you Westland Farm X

User

We stayed in the Sheppard's Hut which is the most beautiful, peaceful place to be.. A wonderfully comfortable bed with lovely views straight out of the door, your own little garden area and fire pit make it perfect for a few nights away.

The on site showers and toilets were spotless and we'll maintained and there was even a fridge freezer, washing machine and tumble drier available for those staying a little longer.

I can't praise it enough, if your looking for a romantic setting for your special occasion you'd be crazy not to choose Westland Farm..

Thank you again.

User

We spent two magical nights in the Drovers Hut with our 2 children (7 & 4). Thank you so much to Nikki and Andy for making our stay such an unforgettable experience. The hut is really well equipped and the king size bed is very comfortable. The kids spent hours paddling in the pond and exploring the farm, helping to feed the animals and playing in the field with baby lambs. The decking provided a perfect spot for a BBQ over looking rolling countryside. We loved our time here and would highly recommend it as a perfect spot to explore North Devon and it's exceptional beaches. Looking forward to our next visit!

User

We spent the weekend in the Shepherds Hut and absolutely loved it! Being able to experience a working farm seeing the pigs and collecting eggs from the chickens and to then build fire pits to cook on was so much fun! Would recommend to anyone who needs some fresh country air! Thank you! X

User

We spent 3nights in Drover's Hut. It was just prefect as we took Colin the dog and he was able to wonder on the decking outside. The kitchen was compact but had everything you could ever want. It was clean, but rustic and the toilet just made me laugh! The shower block was the best I have ever been in on a camp site, clean, spacious and lovely hot water ( no coin machine so no rush ).

Thank you for a lovely holiday the scenery was amazing from our hut and the 'baaing' from the sheep was strangely relaxing. Would recommend it to my friends.

User

We have just returned from a 4 night break in the yurt with our two children (2,6months). Our two years old loved every minute, as did we. Stream to paddle in, fields to run in, piglets to see and fresh eggs to collect for breakfast each morning we could of asked for a more relaxing holiday.

The yurt itself is very cosy and warm and Nicki is very helpful and makes your stay perfect. Thoroughly recommended

User

We had an amazing stay in the shepherds hut at the end of November. Was lovely and warm all cosied up for the evening. We made a lamb stew and left it simmering away on the wood burner for an hour or so whilst we went for a yomp to the reservoir. Couldn't ask for better hosts - everything was thought about, we wanted for nothing and ended up staying an extra night.

User

We had 2 fantastic cosy and wonderful nights on this great farm in the yurt! :)

User

Stayed sept 2015 in the Shepard's Hut and literally cannot fault a single thing! On our quest for relaxation we have stayed in hotels, pods, bells tents, tree houses, you name it- we've tried it and this did it for me! The location, the hut itself, the setting, the owners, the facility's, instantly became my favourite place........ just waiting for the other half to take me back later this year! X x x

User

Spent a couple of very comfortable nights in the shepherds hut. Lovely setting, great hospitality, highly recommended

User

Just returned from an incredible 2 night stay in the shepherd's hut. Perfect location (we spent most of our days in woolacombe/barricane bay). Returning home each evening to the farm was simply divine. Such a perfect location with friendly hosts giving the warmest of welcomes. So lovely to be away from it all. Would highly recommend and looking forward to returning again soon. Thank you Nicky! Xxx

User

Just home from our stay at the Drovers Hut. Have stayed many times before and will continue to do so, often when the batteries need recharging and there is a pull to simply get away from it all.

Romantic, beautiful and relaxing, as little to do or as much as you want depending on your needs but a perfect retreat at the end of a days walking on the moors or a lie down after one cream tea too many! (Lyntons Valley of the Rocks cafe are really good!)

The Drovers Hut is beautifully decorated, raging log burner that does the most awesome sausages and roasted veg in the adjacent oven and all with a back drop of the farm and woodland to watch the sun go down with a glass of wine.

The owners are warm and welcoming, are passionate about their livestock and take pleasure in showing you around. You can even collect your own eggs for breakfast!

I can't recommend this place highly enough.

I'm sure this sort of wilderness will beckon again before Christmas!! Thanks very much to the Cleave family.
