About Weybridge Mariners

Weybridge Mariners is a friendly club with great facilities, that meets every Friday and Sunday,
with special events on a selection of Saturdays.

Weybridge Mariners Description

We have a very full social calendar with many events during both the winter and summer seasons. Whether its a formal Fitting Out Supper or a good old fashioned Games Night the Club and its members always make you feel welcome.

The ATYC Rally returned to West India Dock this year. Weybridge Mariners had 13 boats participating. The rally attracted 86 boats from as far as Lechlade who all benefited from a fantastic deal related to the mooring charges which included electricity plus a BBQ and a formal Dinner Dance.

If boat handling competitions are your thing the annual inter-club competition between London River, Middle Thames and ourselves takes place every year for the Flukey trophy.

2017 has been a sad year for the club, as we have lost many of our cherished members; Roger Francis (March), Joyce Lundberg (May), Terry Carthew and Tarik Sateh (September) and Margery Quick (November). So we hope for a better 2018.
The Commodore and Members of Weybridge Mariners Club would like to wish you all a very happy and prosperous New Year.

The club is extremely sad to announce the death of one of its long term members, Terry Carthew, who passed away peacefully on Monday evening with his wife Jenny at his side.
Terry and Jenny had been very active members of the club, since joining in 1982. Terry had been a very supportive member, being Maintenance Manager for several years from 1983, and Bar Manager from 1995-1999.
We would like to offer our sincere condolences, and our thoughts are with Jenny and family at this extremely sad time.

The recent Commodore's Meet and Greet that took place on Sunday 7th May was very successful, with a good turnout of people.
Don't forget though, the club is always looking to recruit new members to join us. There is currently, for a limited time, 50% off the first year's membership fee for new joining members!
We always welcome visitors, so please come and enjoy our hospitality, meet our members and if you like us then simply ask for a membership form!

The recent St George's Day Lunch that took place at the club, on Sunday 23rd April, has been hailed as the best St George's celebration ever held at the club! All of the helpers did a fantastic job in making the day so successful. A wonderful meal was served; prawn cocktail, roast beef with all the trimmings, followed by various home made puddings, cheese and biscuits. Entertainment was then provided by a pair singing traditional Chas and Dave songs.
The next event will be the Commodore's Meet and Greet Reception on Sunday 7th May. This is an excellent opportunity to make new boating friends and to renew old acquaintance's. If you're interested in joining Weybridge Mariners then why not come along and meet the Commodore and other members of the club. We look forward to seeing you there!

We would also like to take this opportunity to give our enormous thanks to Lesley Hamments, who stepped up and took over role for an interim period, after the death of our existing Commodore Jim Pothecary.
We wish all of the WMC Committee Members the very best of luck in their new appointments!

Weybridge Mariners were very sorry to hear of the death of David Sowter, who passed away on 20th December. David was a past member of Weybridge Mariners for many years, and was also a Committee member. David's death was very sudden, after a fairly short spell in hospital.
Our thoughts are with David's family at this incredibly sad time.

and the winner is...
The Aubretia Cup is awarded every year to someone who has done a lot of work for the club.
Apart from the committee, very few members will realise how much work this year's winner has put in on the club's behalf.
... He regularly checks the fire alarms and security lighting, deals with all the official inspections of the electrics, kitchen and fire extinguishers, and has recently been dealing with the fitting of smoke alarms in the undercroft and clubhouse, and the installation of a direct line to a call centre in case of fire when nobody is in the building. All of these things, we are sure that you will all agree, are essential for the safety of the club and its members.
This years winner is our health and safety officer, Brian Carter.
Many congratulations on your well deserved win Brian!
