This weekend aboard the alexia has been a good one. Saturday we did a half day trip with Darren Simpson chartering the whole boat for himself and friend and they weren't dissapointed boating ling to just over 5lb and a few nice codlings. Today we hit the wrecks with 6 anglers aboard and despite a slow start come slack water it went crackers with the lads boating around 40 fish with our first couple of wolf fish for the season a few ling around 5lb mark and a canny few codling...s biggest around the 5lb mark. The fish were taking shads, hokkais and squid bait and was a cracking few hours sport for the lads. After dinner it freshened up but we plucked away steady for the remainder of the trip.

Not done an update for a couple of weeks as been away on a course then came back and went straight on a family holiday for a few days. It's been a while since our last update and with the easterlies preventing us from getting out over the past week it's gave us chance to catch up on a few things. Our last couple of trips out we had Greg Westgate and his dad charter the whole boat for the self's for a crack at the cod and they weren't disappointed and between them had around 30 codlings taking half for the table. We also returned lots of tiddlers which is great to see. We also had brian Naughtons group of 10 ...aboard and they had around 40 keepers on the day. The fishing has been steady away but with the water not been as coloured as I'd like on the uptiding grounds we had a venture out to the wrecks and picked away steady. The average stamp of codlings have been around 2lb to 4lb, with the bait of choice been unwashed squid and blacks. The spring festival is now upon us although we have yet to fish it due to the easterlies but we hope to be back at it towards the end of the week with the winds looking like there dropping off. We also have the kids off school for the Easter holidays so we also have spaces on 3 hr taster trips weather permitting. WE HAVE THE FOLLOWING TRIPS AVAILABLE WEATHER PERMITTING.

The last few days has been hit and miss. On Thursday we had regular David Jenkins and a few others on for a day's uptiding. With the neap tides I thought we were in for a tough day but we hit the uptiding grounds and within a few mins the rods were nodding. We finished the day with around 60 codlings and dave was top rod with 16 to himself as well as a nice 8lb, 2oz, pollock,another regular Gordon wasn't far behind with 14 for himself and a good average stamp Of fish around 3...lb to. 4lb. The water was really starting to clear out. Saturday was very poor with no colour in the water and very little fish over the rails and virtually no tide running but we still managed a fish or two for our anglers. Today we decided to head out to the inshore wrecks with regular Gordon back for his second trip in a week and we picked away steady over the wrecks all day and finished the day with a couple of ling around 5lb and a few nice codlings upto 4lb. Its now looking like a few days off due to weather so hopefully it will stir up some colour inshore ready for us to get back to the uptiding grounds. Sorry not done an update for a couple of weeks as I spent all Last week in portland with my lad Daniel, aswell as alain storey and sean zac sellers. We spent the week with BH marine were Daniel and alain were doing there day skipper coastal practicals and I'm proud to announce they both passed. Whilst we were there me and Sean also upgraded our tickets to yacht master and we also passed so was a great week. Some parts of the yacht masters was really tough and once you got ove...r the headache off trying to get it to sink in we got there. Was a proud moment seeing my lad Daniel who's only 17, passing his skippers ticket and with just a couple of loose ends to tie up he will soon be commercially endorsed. We got back early hours Friday and I was back out to sea with a trip on sat just gone were we had around 35 Codlings upto around 4lb with everyone on board taking a few fish a piece for the table. We have a few spaces this Thursday and Friday 7am till 4pm uptiding £35pp. Bait and hire gear can be supplied at cost. The last couple of weeks has seen some cracking fish come over the rails with a couple of cod into double figures and plenty around the 3lb to 4lb mark. Some of the days we've had at sea have been like a summers day and the best numbers came over the last set if spring tides. As the tides dropped away so did the numbers of codlings as with all the recent settled weather the inshore waters were clearing out in areas. unwashed squid and frozen blacks continue to fish well. The ...weather this week is unsettled so it looks like a few days off but a good stir up should drive the fish in and should be plenty on the uptiding grounds once the weather settles . For this month only were giving our anglers an extra hour for the same £35pp we charge for our winter uptiding trips. Trips will now depart at 7am till 4pm. Rods tackle and bait can be supplied at cost if needed. We also have a few dates left in the wcsa spring festival £45pp plus comp entrance fee. what a cracker of a day today with over 70 codlings boated up to 7lb. Big spring tides has brought the fish right on and with a bit more colour in the water the rods never stopped nodding with one angler bagging 16 codlings to himself. Lots of codlings were returned and only a few kept for the table. we have also run a couple of 3hr uptiding taster trips the last couple of days with most of them boat fishing for the first time and they wernt disappointed and all left with a f...ew fillets each with one youngster bagging himself a nice plump 5lb 2oz codling. This last week has been hard work on the uptiding grounds with around a dozen codlings per trip. With the neap tides we had hardly any flow in the water and add that with the recent settled weather the inshore water had started to clear out and made it very hard work so not the best of weeks . Biggest fish of the week was 5lb and fell to unwashed squid and blacks. On Saturday I decided to mix things up and headed out to the wrecks at 7 mile and after a couple of hours working... the wrecks we only managed a couple of codlings and a strap ling which were all returned. We then headed back to the uptiding grounds to fish the flood under anchor were we ended up with another half dozen codlings. Would also like to mention lexi mae bemrose who is 6yrs old and was fishing with her dad Darren on Saturday with us here on the Alexia and what a cracking little angler she is catching a codling and showing her dad how its done she's certainly one to look out for and loves her boat fishing. It really is fantastic to see youngsters getting involved with the sport as these kids are the future. yesterday we sailed with just 2 anglers due to 3 lads not turning up without letting me no but me been me I wasn't going to let Martin and his son down who had travelled from wakefield. we hit the uptiding grounds and got of to a steady start fishing the last couple of hours of the ebb. slack water seen us drifting around on the anchor with the breezy south westerly . Just after dinner the flood tide slowly came through and we picked away steady. Biggest was around 4lb with t...he 2 lads boating around 20 fish . They kept a dozen for the table and rest went back. we fished with a mixture of unwashed squid and mussel bait as we struggled to get hold of any blacks last min. We had Andy and friend aboard from south Wales and regular Davey jenkins and Rodrigo on his first sea fishing trip. Andy who fishes very regular all over the country came for the cod as he said he's not seen one in 4yrs. It wasn't long and the rods were nodding with around 40 to 50 codlings boated. We cou...ld of had many more but were pestered by a seal for the entire trip and just couldn't seem to loose him and he helped himself to several fish. We also got Rodrigo his first codlings. majority of fish were on a mixture of squid , blacks and live rag with the average stamp between 2lb and 4.5lb I'm not usually a fan of rag for uptiding here but with a shortage of blacks we had no choice but to use rag as was all was available at short notice.
