This place has been under new management for just six days but already it’s soooo much better. Gorgeous views, great food and really good coffee.

This is my favourite place in Saltdean - the view is to die for and when the sun shines on the sea it's magical. Lovely new owners with lots of ideas about improving the cafe and how it is used. Now opens til 9 and there was such a great vibe when I was there the other day. My friend had tapas and said it was delicious - the chef came out to make sure she was happy with her food. Well worth a visit - I predict it will become THE place to hang out!

User

Popped in for a quick drink and stayed for a few hours enjoying the tapas, which was very tasty, dogs are very welcome and offered treats and you can also buy them frozen yoghurt

Will definitely be weekly visitors to this wonderful gem of a place and wow what a view!

User

Me and my dad over from Ireland came here this morning for breakfast and have to say the service and food was 1st class.

Good luck to the new management Very happy x

I moved to saltdean last weekend. So thought would take my dog a walk on the seafront in rain this morning. And thought I would get a coffee and sit out side with bingo my dog. Then a really nice young waitress got him so water and said he was welcome to come in , what a great place had a coffee and some toast in the lovley cafe sat by the window . All the staff so friendly and welcoming. Loads of lovley looking food . This will be my new local cafe and I could not wish for better. See you all soon. Sam

Wonderful location, looking and smelling fresher and tidy.. A lick of paint and a jetwash has made the cafe and surrounding areas much more appealing.. Its going to take time, this place has had new owners for a couple of months.. Staff are being re-educated or replaced and as the place gets busier new staff are being recruited to speed things up and apparently a new faster till system eventually too. Fingers crossed, the new folk are doing their best in limited time and with funds available... The food we've had has been wonderful. Shame to hear of bad experiences but it is early days. Give them six months not six weeks and see what they've managed to achieve, perhaps!? I must say, the new Roast of coffee, is excellent... X

I’ve always found the food is excellent and the staff very accommodating. Ok in the summer when the weather suddenly turns great it can be a bit hectic with people suddenly turning up in droves but any business has a few issues when that happens.

The views are fantastic and the cafe has never been cold when I’ve been in there.

Top place to chill !!!

A great place to go and it is dog friendly too. Stunning views out to sea. Service a little slow at times, but food is good. Cash only.

We visited Wednesday evening with 2 friends for Tapas. My full review is on Trip Advisor, but here are the main points:

Great location, nice atmosphere and friendly, enthusiastic new owners!

Slow service, low stock so ran out of several dishes (and later, beer!).

Bizarrely, no drinks or food menus on the table when we sat down.

There seems to be a feeling of disorganisation here which needs addressing

and these basic problem areas need sorting out pretty soon!

But the owners asked us what we thought and were prepared to listen to our gripes, so I am sure their desire to make the Whitecliffs great will carry them through these early weeks. The whole of Saltdean really wants this place to succeed as it's been patchy for years now.

Will be back soon to hopefully see improvements! Good luck guys....

This is one of my favourite places to visit simply for the lovely view. We noticed when we arrived it was under new management, considering this we accepted that it felt unorganised (staff unsure about food options etc)

The breakfast was nice with quality sausages, but they were not to my liking (personal choice) the bacon was so over cooked it was rock hard! My main criticism and I mean this constructively is the toasted cheese sandwich: it was totally flat and I think they must have put a slither of cheese in, you couldn’t taste it. I really think if you’re going to change £4 plus for a toasted sandwich it really needs to be better than this.

I really wish you well and hope with a new chief your menu can expand and the quality improve. On a positive note, loved the quotes on the flowers

What a shame about this place. It has been under new management for eight weeks now with no improvement to the service. We have just waited 50 minutes for three sandwiches and two portions of chips. After several enquiries two sandwiches arrived which were wrong then five minutes later one portion of chips. How difficult can it be? It wasn’t particularly busy, there were lots of waiting staff and the manager was present. We are so disappointed; Saltdean needs this place so badly but after six disappointing visits throughout the summer with service problems we won’t be returning any time soon. I’m saddened to write this as the staff are all so pleasant and each time very apologetic but enough is enough.

User

Very very disappointed.

Went for breakfast yesterday (Saturday 23/06/18). Saw the new layout and menu (was impressed even though more expensive than before it was taken over) and waited eagerly for our lovely brekkies.

Laid the table with a plate, one napkin but 3 sets of knives and forks (thought then it was a bad omen, who gives one napkin to 3 people ?)

1. Full English with poached egg

Only one rasher of bacon (menu said two) and beans were cold. Other than that hunnie said it was ok.

2. Full English with griddled egg

Only one slice of bacon, Mushrooms cold, no beans, no tomato and griddled eggs still snotty ..... sent back

Came back with no beans, no hash brown, no toast and eggs put back on griddle and now overdone.

Asked for hash brown and toast which arrived later and toast was cold.

Gave up and ate what I had as time was running out.

3. Full English no beans or toms scrambled egg

Scrambled egg looked dodgy with liquid on plate. One slice of bacon, no hash brown but with tomato which we didn't want.

Daughter said what she had was ok.

Hubbie went to pay, woman apologised just saying "hopefully things will settle down". No reduction offered, paid £24 for the above. Definitely won't be finding out if it settles down as that's too expensive to take a chance on getting awful breakfasts again. Plenty of other places who do excellent breakfasts for less.

Real shame as really liked it there before and breakfasts were fab. Alas not any more

User

Strange experience ranging from few food options to chaotic service. Food was tasty let down by inexperience. I wish them well and look forward to menu improvements especially at lunch times and evenings

User

This is such an amazing location but over past couple of years the service has gone from poor to chaotic, they no longer take cash ( temporary card machine is broken sign for months & months). Last 4 times the food had been good at least even when takes nearly hour to reach us. Today the food was dire. The chorizo was unpleasant, chips (unrequested) were cold, batter on calamari was bland and floury.... We were charged £1.80 for a school water glass 2/3 full of carton cranberry juice.

User

Service is extremely slow even for a simple coffee, complete lack of organisation on food ordering, other customer waited in excess of one hour for their food order, and they do not take cards, cash only
