A shout out for the Big Lunch on Sunday. Perfect to grab a drink or a bite to eat after your hard work on the allotment!

Fighting over honey! The allotment was covered in silence early this morning, but the little workers were very busy. Have you sprinkled wildflower seeds around your allotment? It’s not only a joy to see these flowers flourish, but needed to have lots of bees to cross-pollinate our crops. Poppies are excellent, but other wildflowers and lavender too.

Autumn is upon us soon, but that doesn’t mean that the allotment is empty. Have you tried Endives, pack Choi, Daikon, winter lettuce and of course cabbages. A good way to protect your soil is green manure.

The jewel in the crown is the bountiful harvest. What have you grown this year which was a bit different? Let us know we love to hear from you.

A rainy day is calling for a homegrown brunch. Have you tried green Shashuka? It’s delicious and quick! Use any greens you have e.g. beetroot, spinach, nasturtium leaves, chard, rocket and mustard leaves. Use a mix of them. Spice it up with a delicate curry powder ( DM for recipe), chillies, salt and pepper. Add 1 big tomato and fry until soft. Add 2 eggs pp. when cooked sprinkle with edible flowers e.g. nasturtiums and spring onions. Enjoy! ( if you have any; top it up with cherry tomatoes)

Have you tried salt baked beetroot? Once tried there is no way back. A layer of salt in an oven tray, put the beetroot on top of it. Bake on 185 C for approx 1.5 hours peel and cut into slices. Delicious with whipped Feta. Full recipe in Berber & Q Absolutely amazing and so simple!
