In the terrible earthquake in Nepal rescuers are requesting water as one of the main survival items. But it's not just for drinking - water is used for hygiene, to help cook foods, for medical purposes (to hydrate salts), bathe wounds and to help disinfect medial areas. Like everyone I am sure, we at Whitehole Springs were very saddened at this disaster to see people homeless and their wonderful country in ruins. We send the people of Nepal, the rescuers and aid agencies our sincere wishes for the hope that many more people will be found alive and their country and people restored as soon as possible.

The power of water is incredible, not for health this time. In the last couple of days areas around Sydney, in Australia, have experienced rain and cyclone conditions like no other event. In places 250mm of rain was recorded and such torrents actually sent houses moving down streets. Water is an incredible substance - in it's most basic form gives life - in it's worst destruction.

There are not many 'true facts' known about St. George, his adventures at slaying a dragon is the one most associated with him. His patronage as the Saint of England dates back to the 14th century, however, there are writings mentioning his name as far back as the 11th century and pre-dating the Norman Conquest. The cross of St. George was his trademark and this now forms the basis of the Union flag, or Union Jack which is used throughout the World on many flags including Australia and New Zealand.

Throughout history and before the advent of alternative drinks there was only water, but now we have a myriad of drinks and most are deemed 'no good' for us. The World Health Organisation has recently announced that there are now parts of the World where quality drinking water is just not available. Their report goes on to say that this will now affect more countries than ever and not only in the 'third World' regions, but, places like America where water usage far outstrips the natural resource. We must look after our water - please be water wise.
