Widening Participation To Medicine - Wpm

A non-profit scheme with the aim to inspire, encourage and assist under-represented high school /college students in Norfolk to apply to medical school.

WPM is a scheme led by medical students from Norwich Medical School.

WPM's goal is to inspire and motivate high school /college students to consider a future career in medicine, as well as provide assistance to those applying to study medicine at university .

Our target audience is students from under-represented backgrounds in the medical field to enable equal opportunity to pursue medicine as a future career regardless of social, financial and cultural backgrounds.

Sessions are led by medical students and the sessions aim to be informal and interactive. They take place in the schools and colleges in Norfolk. Additionally several events are held on UEA campus throughout the year.

Sessions will involve activities such as:

• Problem based learning (PBL) group activities
• Surgical gloving and gowning
• Basic Life Support
• Mock interviews
• Q& A sessions
• Basic clinical skills such as blood pressure
• Human anatomy painting sessions
• Career day presentations
• Personal statement writing sessions

Payment for involvement in WPM:
If you are a student ambassador for the university, you can get paid the full hourly rate for your involvement in WPM events
If you are not a student ambassador for the university, we are able to pay you an equivalent amount in vouchers for the university (eg. for the campus shop etc)
