Wigan & Leigh Hospice

About Wigan & Leigh Hospice

Providing specialist palliative care for people living with a life-limiting illness, including cancer, respiratory or neurological conditions

Wigan & Leigh Hospice Description

The Hospice is an independent charity with care provided free of charge to over 1, 000 patients every year. We also support those people important to our patients. We rely on the generosity of all sectors of our local community who have kindly supported the Hospice for over 30 years.
Since the Hospice opened in 1983 many thousands of local people and their families have benefitted from our care whether given in the hospice building or in patients' own homes.

This Sunday 16th June is Father's Day.
You can dedicate a daisy in memory of a beloved father/Grandfather on our website. Choose to have your loved one's dedication appear in our virtual daisy garden, and/or have their name engraved on a wooden daisy.

#VolunteersWeek
Margaret is an eBay and Bygone Times Volunteer for the Hospice Retail Team. Sound interesting? It is! She uses her organisation, administration and retail skills to list rare or valuable donated items on online auction sites, making sure we get a good price for them to raise money for patient care and hospice services.
Margaret loves volunteering because “I’m making friends and having fun whilst raising money for our Hospice”. Thank you so much, Margaret!
... * We’re currently recruiting for more volunteers in our online sales team – if you’re interested follow the link below *

We have 13 shops and every single one is run by volunteers. During National Volunteers Week we would like to say a big THANK YOU to all of them for all of their hard work and dedication.

It’s national Volunteers’ Week this week so we’d like to take the opportunity to thank our wonderful volunteering community.
Our volunteers play a crucial part in the running of the hospice, alongside our employees. Working together last year we provided hospice services to 1,187 patients in Wigan and Leigh – both in the hospice building and in the community.
If you would like to know more about volunteering please visit our website www.wlh.org.uk or telephone the HR & Volunteer team on 01942 525566 for a discussion about current opportunities or to arrange a visit.

Bananaman we need you!
We are looking for sponsors for our riders refreshments. 62 miles is no mean feat on an empty stomach. Can your workplace provide the refreshments our riders need so we can spend that money on our patients?
Fuelling our amazing bikers and our equally amazing volunteers who are helping on the day will mean a shopping list of:... 150 bananas, 150 pies, 150 flapjacks, hundreds of litres of water, energy drinks and a much needed sugar hit to get our riders to the finish line - CHOCOLATE!
Please message us if you can help, or share or tag anyone who you think might be able to help with our supermarket sweep….someone ‘Ever alert for the call to action’.
