*New Conservation Project* Here’s Kevin and Patricia swinging on in! These are our critically endangered African white backed vultures. African vulture species have declined by some 96% in just a decade! The time to act for wildlife is now. This summer we are launching our official partnership with @vulpro_official . Vulpro are on the frontline in Africa working with sick, poisoned and injured birds that are suffering from the global catastrophe that is human activity. That ...could be secondary or primary poisoning, trapping, injury from traffic or wind turbines, illegal trade and indeed they are killed for parts used in traditional medicines and religion which is of course nonsense and a total ironic tragedy death. We are working to raise enough funds to build an ICU critical care hospital unit for the birds in vulpros care. We’re also heading out to work with them and help with the build when we have reached our target which we are aiming for by the end of October! The work they do is critical to the population and the survival of these incredible and ecologically crucial birds. Alongside this we are also setting up our vulture breeding programme here at the park aswell as educating our visitors daily with our group of 6 free flying vultures. If you’re keen to help with this project, email us on info@wildzoo.co.uk. You can also help simply visiting the park and watching the Wild Wings show, there are also options at the end of the show to help with our efforts on this project. Preparation starts now! #whitebackedvulture #criticallyendangered #vulture #birdshow #wildzoologicalpark #wildwingsbirdshow #vultureconservation #vulpro

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there! Remember we told you about our love sick crane Nigel who finally received a lovely girlfriend Sharron back in February. Nigel had been calling at passing aircraft thinking they were other cranes in the hope of finding a female. Nobody called back until Sharron arrived... Well the story has developed... look closely, these pair have made a little nest already and what do you see?
We’re expecting a pitter patter of little crane fe...et soon. Well done Nigel and Sharon. Cranes are one of the most threatened groups of birds with most species featuring on the IUCN red list of endangered species.

Patrick the #asianpalmcivet on his daily rounds around the otter pool. Did you know wild civets are often captured from the South East Asian forests, kept in tiny cages and force fed coffee beans to make an unusual civet poop coffee called Kopi Luwak which is a delicacy and very expensive. There’s an awful lot of suffering for civets living in this way so if you do want to try this unusual beverage, any tourist tempted by the novelty should only choose proven ‘cage-free’ civet coffee instead, which is good for wild animals, good for conservation, good for coffee connoisseurs, and good for rural communities who can continue to generate an income from tourists visiting South East Asian forests.. #civet #palmcivet #wildzoologicalpark #zoo #wildlife

Yummy yummy yummy. Our troop of ring tailed lemurs are unfortunately an endangered species. Some lemur species are actually critically endangered out in the wild. Coupled with habitat destruction and degradation, poaching is also a massive threat to Madagascar’s dwindling lemur population. There are lots of lemur species in Madagascar ranging from the one-ounce pygmy mouse lemur to the 20-pound indri lemur, these primates are only found in Madagascar. On the brink of extinction, Madagascar’s 100 catalogued species are all currently deemed endangered.

What a crazy May half term it has been! An awesome week of spectacular bird shows, wildlife education and the launch of our latest conservation partnerships for vultures, binturongs and macaws. Thanks to everyone who’s come to visit us this May half term!
On the subject of macaws, work has started on our brand new macaw clay licks habitat. It’s a walkthrough aviary with lush tropical foliage and South American theming where visitors can learn about South American birds and animals and even get a little closer to some of our resident macaws as they fly over head and our Amazonian mammals. Macaws to been seen include Greenwinged, blue and gold, scarlet, military, buffons, blue throated, red fronted, illigers along with some surprise new arrivals. The project should be completed and open for the summer holidays!
