My favourite lift I’ve ever done. . Why.... this was just 6 weeks after Worlds where I had to convert back to conventional after suffering injuries that stopped me from being able to lift in my far stronger stance (sumo). At Worlds, I only achieved a 235kg deadlift for a new conventional max. 6 weeks later, still unable to squat properly without severe hip pain, I said fuck it and pulled 260kg for a balls out 3rd attempt. Even though I dropped it on the way down so it didn’t... count, it matched my competition best sumo deadlift. . Before this I had resigned myself to having to settle for my deadlift to lag behind my squat forever. This lift gave me hope that I can still be a half decent deadlifter. . Week 3, 205kg for ✋ X ✋ 😎 . Taking a volume deload next week, I’ll be reducing my sets down to 2 but still increasing the weight by 10kg. First session back in wraps 🥳 but on the SSB 😳 . 185kg 5 sets of 5 reps... smoke. . Week 1 of a 4 week progression using a 5 X 5 approach - 10kg per week. So here’s another post about starting light to aid progression.... . An overlooked factor of starting light is the confidence it brings coming into the next session. “If this weight was this easy, next week should be alright too!” . Confidence is the biggest boost you can hope for in the gym... so build it! Don’t go too heavy too soon and create a negative relationship with adding weight to the bar. . New favourite accessory movement! Feel like I can push this a long way! . Front squats can be a fantastic accessory movement but for most people they are very uncomfortable and sometimes even painful on their shoulders/wrists. . Main squat work from earlier today @strengthbasehq . . 5 sets of 7 @ 172.5kg. Took my time warming up because the hips were cranky... but so worth it when it came to these top sets! . In my opinion you have to earn your right to add weight to the bar, not only over the course of a training block but also as you’re warming up.... . If the empty bar feels like 💩, don’t add weight until it stops feeling like 💩. You’ll thank me when it comes to hitting your heavier sets! . Looking forward to the final block in my macro cycle, gonna be yeeting some serious tin around 😎😎 .

First deadlift session @strengthbasehq 😍. . Large deficit (10cm) with 155kg for 4 sets of 8. . Starting off light because I want to continually progress week-on-week. You don’t have to continually hit rep maxes year round in order to get stronger. Sometimes you have to take a step back to work on your weaknesses and build a solid base to use as a launch pad!... . You don’t need to be strong right now... you need to be strong when it counts most - for me that’s on the platform. .

How to spot a bench press - demonstrated beautifully here by @robbyc11 . Step 1: Stand back until the person has finished setting up. . Step 2: Once that person has finished setting up, step in, and on their signal, assist with unracking the weight with good control and balance.... . Step 3: Do not release the bar until you have been given the signal that they are ready to begin. . Step 4: Once released, stay close enough that you are able to intervene quickly if anything goes wrong. Although it is very important that you are not too close to distract the bencher - a nervous spotter is off putting! . Step 5: DO NOT TOUCH THE BAR... unless they are in trouble! . Step 6: Assist with the re-racking if asked and then compliment them on their technique... if their technique sucks, tell them how handsome/pretty they are. You can never over-do it. .

140kg for 4 sets of 5 reps. New 5rm for sets. Not an informative post but just a proud one. . Last week @trench_mich and I moved into our first house together and it’s been stressful to say the least. There have been some big problems with the house and I was really tempted to give this session a miss AGAIN. It took a lot to drag my ass into this session so I’m super pleased to have hit this. .... Everything should have calmed down by the end of this week so will be back to normal soon! . Peace ✌️ .

The reigning 56kg category European champion/deadlift record holder getting some honest work done on squats. . 1 X 10 comfy! 5 X 3 All at 67.5kg. This is the final set.... . Why only sets of 3 if she can do 10 easily? . Simple answer? More time under the bar, practising technique with moderate weights, without beating her up too much. There is another squat session coming up later in the week that she needs to be fresh for. . 260kg deadlift... 25kg conventional PB... locked out but failed for losing grip while putting it down. This is what heart break looks like. . My second attempt was an easy 237.5kg which was a 2.5kg PB so I should be satisfied. . But I’m not. ... . Taking this rest week easy but will be back with a vengeance in the coming weeks. 157.5kg bench 😳😳 this was a surprise! My planned 3rd attempt was 155kg expecting a struggle... . The biggest change I’ve made this block of training for my bench press is actually my breathing. I now hold my breath for entire sets (as per @australianstrengthcoach advice)... the longest being a set of 9 😵. . The benefit I’ve found with this is my ability to stay locked in position when sets start to get difficult - this being my downfall in previous comps.... .
