Six illegal immigrants were caught attempting to sneak into the UK after they called 999 complaining they were trapped inside a shipping container.
Harbour police were called early on Tuesday after the men, believed to be from north African countries, found themselves trapped at Teesport, Middlesbrough.
The men had arrived on board a ship from Zeebrugge, Belgium, on Sunday evening but were trapped until Tuesday.
... Police called Border Force officials after the hapless migrants unwittingly gave themselves up making the call for help.
The men were taken to hospital to be checked up before being discharged into Border Force custody.
A source said: "The migrants rang the police from inside the container and informed them of their whereabouts.
"The police attended and then handed them over to border force hours later to process."
Last week seven men from Eritrea were found at the port - which has been described as a "steady leak" by insiders.
The source added: "This just adds to the numbers hitting our coastline at present."
Following the latest incident a Border Force spokeswoman said: "Border Force was contacted by Harbour Police this morning, Tuesday 2 April, after police attended an incident at Teesport Docks.
"Six men were taken to hospital but have now been assessed as medically fit and discharged. Their nationalities have not yet been confirmed.
"The men will be interviewed by immigration officers and their cases will be dealt with according to the immigration rules."
The men were treated for dehydration.

There are a lot of things you'd expect a parent to say if their son is confronted by paedophile hunters but this dad's reaction is not one of them.

When you're interviewed for attempted murder it's probably best NOT to say you'll "do a better job next time"

No defence for such behaviour.
