Jailed for 13 months for posing as registered electrician .. Imagine how long someone would get, if they were leaving their work untested and not certified to relevant authority.. I reckon good jail time ... I work hard and pay lots of money to keep my business playing by the rules and regulations ... Not that I agree with them all ..they are there for a purpose .. We have spent a colossal amount of energy getting our certificates up to date .. This is four different certificates for you ... Complying with the new 18th edition regulations. Were moving away from software over to hard paper copies .. Not much further to go now ..

This is how we do it ..

One of the main problems we find when visiting domestic properties is lack of correct earthing and supply arrangements. Effectively putting people in danger of electric shock or fire. Fault detection relies on a few main factors,
1) Overload... 2) Short circuit 3) Faults to earth
Protective devices must sense the above points to remain effective.
If a high resistance to earth exists protective measures can become ineffective, not sensing the fault on the specific line due to too little current flow through / too high resitance.
RCD's sense imbalances between conductors and should be used where the regulations advise.
Earth loop paths should be designed and tested to meet the working specifications for protective devices to work effectively.
This can ONLY BE ENSURED by testing with an appropriate piece of test equipment .. ..... NOT BY GUESSING ....
