Wiltshire Search And Rescue

About Wiltshire Search And Rescue

Wiltshire Search and Rescue (WILSAR) is a charity providing specialist volunteer support to the Emergency Services.

Wiltshire Search And Rescue Description

WILSAR operate all over Wiltshire and occasionally the surrounding counties, supporting neighbouring teams. We are there to assist Wiltshire Police in the search for missing and vulnerable people. Examples of these are children, people with learning difficulties, depression, suicidal tendencies or the elderly with Alzheimer’s or dementia. We average one call out per week, some of which can be stood down after a few hours when the missing person is found safe and well, some searches may go on for several days.

Our 50-60 members are all trained in specialist search techniques and the discipline and respect required when handling missing people and their loved ones. We are all 100% volunteers and pay for our own fuel, kit and training. The team itself receives no government funding so we can only exist by our own fundraising and public donation. Our members, as with many of the other volunteer services in Wiltshire, seek no reward for what they do, just the feeling that they are doing something to help. In 2011 we received the prestigious Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service and this year we proudly received the Wiltshire Police Chief Constable’s Certificate of Merit.

It’s amazing what you can inadvertently find in the woods if you’re searching hard enough! (And here’s a few photos of trainee Ollie getting stuck in too!)
Thanks to Hampshire Search and Rescue Dogs for coming to join in the exercise, and giving us a talk on their capabilities 👍🏻

We’d like to say a big THANK YOU to the member of the public who found one of our volunteer’s hats and posted it back to our base! ☺️
We were very impressed with the grid reference, and were able to immediately work out exactly who had searched in that area 🗺

We are there at the end of the phone when our community needs us most. We are called upon by Wiltshire Police to assist in searching for vulnerable missing people and returning them to a place of safety and their loved ones.
Now we need the support of our community! This vital equipment will make a huge difference to our volunteers and could be instrumental in saving lives.
It will take less than a minute to register and vote for our project ‘See and be Seen’, it would mean s...o much to us! Voting closes on 17th June.
If you have more than a minute to spare please follow the link to our Crowdfunder page where you will find a video which will help you to understand more about who we are and what we do. Also if you are able, you can make a donation. Every penny received goes directly into the Charity funds, there are no deductions made of any kind so literally - every penny does count 🙂

We are appealing to the community of Marlborough and surrounding villages for their support when shopping in Tesco's by dropping their token in our collection bin!
We have been selected to take part in Tesco, Bags of Help. token scheme at their Marlborough Store during May and June.
Our application is to raise funding to enable us to purchase the following equipment - Radio Repeater, Duplexer and Mast Kit which will greatly extend the effective range of our digital radios, ...thus enabling our Search Teams to cover a larger area from where our Control Unit is situated and by saving time could potentially save lives.
We will be in-store on 29th June so please come and visit us!

We were delighted to be invited to attend the Marlborough Town Football Club event on 6th July as part of the Emergency Services attendees.
This will provide an ideal opportunity for us to personally thank the many local businesses and organisations that, including MTFC, have supported us during the past year by making donations to our funds. Please come and talk to us and learn more about who we are and what we do, we really would like to meet you!
We receive no regular sta...tutory funding and rely solely on our own fundraising efforts and the support of the community of Wiltshire to enable us to continue supporting Wiltshire Police in searching for vulnerable missing people and returning them to a place of safety.
Many thanks to Mace Express - Marlborough, Budgens Marlborough, Costcutter - Marlborough, Esso Marlborough, Cafe 38, Elements of Avebury, The Lodge of Good Fellowship No 8388, Jubilee Sale Room (Harrison Auctions Ltd), Sylvia Richardson - Oare, One Stop, Castle & Ball and Esso Burbage.

Today we sent 18 team members to #SimExSeries2019 to support Hampshire Search and Rescue dealing with a severe weather scenario producing multiple casualties.
#LowlandRescue team members were deployed to the disaster zone by boat, used rope systems to rescue the injured, then provided initial care at a casualty clearing station #oneteam

This weekend a number of the team have been volunteering as marshals and event support for The Big Walk - a St James Place Foundation charity event.
It's been an amazing weekend and well done to everyone who took part.
We're also really grateful to Priority IT and Naturally Social for sponsoring our support vehicle from CanDo Contracts Ltd

Thank you for your support Castle & Ball, Marlborough!
All members of our team donate their time not only to searching but also many hours to regular training and discussions to ensure that they are able to offer the best possible service to the community of Wiltshire and Wiltshire Police. We receive no regular statutory funding and rely solely on donations from our community and our own fundraising efforts to maintain the vital service we offer. Every penny donated goes directly to the Charity's funds, no commissions or expenses are deducted, so every penny literally does make a difference!

This week we’ve been taking part in joint medical training with Hampshire Search and Rescue, kindly hosted by Gosport And Fareham Inshore Rescue Service.
The session focused on disaster situations where there are many casualties, requiring a multi-agency response. It was great to train alongside organisations we don’t normally see in landlocked Wiltshire like HM Coastguard, as we could potentially be deployed anywhere in the UK if required!

We’re very fortunate to have our kit stored next to the police dogs and firearms, with constantly monitored CCTV... but some of our fellow teams are more vulnerable to individuals who think of no one but themselves.
Please share and make the engine too hot to handle! 😣

Our team is part of Lowland Rescue, the umbrella organisation for search and rescue teams like ourselves. Take a look at the stats. Hugely impressive numbers and 2018 was our busiest year to date.
Even more impressive when you remember we are all volunteers and have to raise every £ we need ourselves.
If you want to help us, there are a number of ways you can. The easiest is by donating and there are lots of different ways you can do that http://wilsar.org.uk/donate/

We are continuing to assist Wiltshire Police in #Wroughton and the surrounding areas. All of our volunteers are professionally trained to national standards.
