This week we have been at Wistlandpound clearing the invasive rhododendron on site. This tough plant spreads through woodland areas replacing the natural understory; a particularly difficult plant to tackle so much so the cuttings are hung above ground to prevent re-rooting and shooting! We need all the hands and help we can get!
SW Lakes Trust also have an exciting new position for an Invasive Species Officer to work in collaboration with South West Water to implement our core invasive species management and awareness campaigns in 2019. Find out more here: https://www.swlakestrust.org.uk/…/count ryside-environmental/
Looking forward to welcoming rowing clubs from universities and towns across the country for training camps from the end of this month- get in contact if you'd like to bring your club here or to see what we may be able to offer for you!

Went for a butterfly walk today as part of Naturally Healthy Month. Had a great time. Chris was so knowledgeable and tailored it to our interest. He told us about other areas of the lake so we will definitely be back to explore more of the lake, and would definitely attend another similar wildlife event!
We loved our first visit to Wimbleball lake this week. Lovely place to stay, stars at night were great the first night. Though the cafe was shut the whole time during our stay it didn't matter. We had a fantastic time on the lake kayaking. Your adventure park was a great hit, especially the climbing rock in the evening. The boys want to go back again. Loved the fact there was no WiFi or mobile signal. Bliss!
We have 4 children aged 13,11,5 and 2yrs and it is really hard to find days out that suit everyone. We had a great day at Wimbleball did a bit of sailing, climbing trees and the climbing wall in the park, even a spot of birdwatching in the hide! The café was great and the staff at the Activity's Centre were brilliant and even made the effort to get a bigger boat out of winter storage especially so we could all get out on the water together. We all had great fun and will definitely be visiting again maybe even camping next time!
We had the best experience/day ever. I've just posted some photos with comments. You are welcome to share them. Thank you to everyone who made it the success that it was! We had a fabulous time
We had our staff day out on the lake today and it was fantastic! All the activities available meant that there was something for everyone, they were incredibly well run and so much fun. I don’t think any of us have laughed as much as we did whilst raft building. The instructors were knowledgable, and I never would have thought we would have people attempting headstands whilst paddle boarding! It was a really well run day.
We had a fantastic day, great facilities with helpful friendly staff. Thank you v much!
We are on holiday in the area and visited the lake today with our kayaks. Very impressed with the place, staff were friendly and helpful, facilities were good. Given it's half term it wasn't that busy. Hope your open day goes well.
Was back in the late summer, it was perfect. Was visiting with my niece who was helping me with our B&B Arden Cottage. We do recommend the whole Wimbleball experience to all our guests and too finish their day with a superb cream tea.
Had a brilliant two nights camping with kids and dog. Even managed to walk around the lake. Clean campsite fantastic views. Will definately be back
Cracking place. Only bumped into one other family. nice peaceful and a great bit of British engineering.
Completed the 9 mile lakeside walk after 2 nights of very heavy rain. It would be helpful to inform visitors that the only real path is on the short trek from the dam to the cafe, which is only probably 15% of the circular walk. It was treacherous in parts. I feel more warnings should be displayed with regards to expected conditions underfoot. It should also be advised that solo walkers should carry a mobile in case of difficulty (injury etc.).
Brilliant family day out for the open day. My 5&7 year boys loved it! We had a fab sailing experience from the club and the people were so friendly and welcoming. Very good value for money and we are really looking forward to using more over the summer. Thank you
A fantastic place, we loved it. We didn't get to walk all the way round, as we were on a bit of a time limit, but next time we are hoping to do the whole circuit and stay to see the stars at night. Great facilities and looking forward to trying the caste out next time x
Visited Aug Bank Holiday 2017 and it was a great experience with our Niece (11) and Nephew (7). Stayed at the campsite in our caravan and it was so quiet at night and is a Dark Skies site so great for star watching. The staff are great and we were able to launch our rubber dinghy with electric Outboard at the slipway (£7 + £2 parking).
Facilities are a little bit more rough and ready than some of the caravan sites we have stayed on, but perfectly adequate and the location and boating facilities more than made up for it.
Our last night was marred a little by a large group of campers, who were still going strong (and loudly) well after 11pm and there does not seem to be any warden on site so you are reliant upon other people's common sense and responsibility to do the right thing.
The only problem we had was there not enough signs as you are walking round. We did the entire circuit of the lake but we had no idea which path we were on and what distance we had either walked or had to walk to get back. As it can be deceptive on how big this is we might have had a better idea on if we should have turned back or carried on.
Such a lovely place, loved having a picnic up there and chilling. My 1year old loved the play area especially the slides!
Taken a star off as the toilets needed a clean and it wasn't even busy on the day we went.
Can't wait to go back though x
Great place once we found it need better signage to find the place. Definitely be back for a spot of fishing
Fab time, something for everyone, be it water sports walking cycling camping , showers changing rooms nice cafe friendly staff ,,,,, do it visit !!
It was lovely walking around the lake but when we got back to the campsite at 4.30 after a 5 hours walk it would have been nice to find the cafe still open especially when there were still lots of walkers around but it closed at 4pm
