There was a very moving event at the Windmill on Armistice Day, 11th November, to remember all those from the local area who fell during the Great War.
Some 700 people gathered to hear the piper play a lament. Most had walked across the Common in the dark from the Wimbledon and Roehampton War Memorials, and carried candles and rang handbells as a display of the names of 900 who had died scrolled through on the screen.
It was a memorable event and a tribute to those who gave their lives for us 100 years ago.

A group of our loyal volunteers enjoyed a visit to Cobham Mill today and saw the watermill in action grinding corn.
We were immensely impressed by the restoration work that was carried out twenty years ago to enable the mill to be run today.
Many thanks to our Volunteer Coordinator, Linda, and also to our counterparts at Cobham who gave their time to show us round.

SUNDAY 29th July - CLOSED
Once again we have to announce that the Windmill Museum will not be opening while the Prudential Bike Ride takes place.
On Sunday 29th, Parkside will be closed to traffic making it extremely difficult for the seven volunteers needed for the day.
... We apologise to anyone planning to visit, but be assured that the Windmill will be open as usual on Saturday 28th and on the remaining summer weekends till the end of October.

The mill is looking photogenic today as the north wind has brought the sails round to the front. But we will be competing for visitors with the World Cup and Wimbledon Finals, so if you like a peaceful escape today is the day to visit!
