Windermere Camping and Caravanning Club Site

Windermere Camping And Caravanning Club Site Description

Water-based fun, walking and the attractions of the Lakes are accessible from this site.

Our family-friendly Windermere Club campsite is betwixt popular Bowness-on-Windermere and the bustling market town of Kendal. Its location makes it ideal for exploring both towns and the varied attractions of the southern Lake District.

Sit back and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this campsite, the plentiful wildlife and the wonderful views. Windermere is not only spacious, it’s well laid out and boasts many environmentally-friendly facilities. There is a separate tent camping area, backpacker facility, a family camping area, children’s play area and a 4* rated pub restaurant The Whistling Pig.

There are many walks from the campsite. Across the fields is the village of Staveley as well as a shop, supermarket and a couple of pubs the Hawkshead Brewery is here too. There are more walks to enjoy from the village including Potters Fell and Reston Scar.

Bowness-on-Windermere offers plenty of water-based activities including cruises, canoeing and wind surfing and attractions including The World of Beatrix Potter and Aquarium of the Lakes. Take the chain ferry to the western side of the lake and visit the pretty village of Hawkshead and Claife Heights, National Trust woodland great for walking, cycling and wildlife spotting. Fell Foot Park at the southern tip of the lake is perfect for picnics or a swim in the lake.

Wowzers home from a lovely long weekend with our friends. Thank you so much to lovely little Jo she really is a credit to the site and the camping and caravanning brand. The site is lovely and clean and a Fab base for us to go off and find some water for our paddle board! The boys have made some lovely friends from Hemel Hempsted here this weekend we are sad to leave. Thanks for everything we will be back! X

We've been here for ten days, returning home tomorrow. The rain has been torrential day after day, but this site is lovely. It's a big site but you don't have the problem of seeing rows and rows of vans as there are various different 'fields', little coppice areas etc. For us, the saving grace of this whole time has been the wonderful little restaurant on site, the Whistling Pig, where really good and inexpensive fare is to be enjoyed. We recommend the steak particularly, yummy, and locally sourced. As tonight is our last evening it'll be our last visit. Already lining up the slow cooked lamb shank!

Wardens are a great bunch too. Well run site. Will come again.

Lovely site with great views and plenty to do. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Pitches were well organised and still felt private for such a busy site. Will deffo come again

Just got back home from four nights 'glamping' in a Ready Camp tent - whole experience was fantastic!

The site is quite large but laid out in a way which makes it feel very quiet and tranquil, even though it was pretty busy all week!

Staff were very friendly and helpful, had a lovely welcome from the reception and Geoff who showed us to our pitch.

The ready camp tent is superb with everything you need and spotlessly clean - very impressed!

You feel like you're in the middle of nowhere, especially with all the wildlife around! You're in easy reach of Kendal, Windermere and all the attractions around the Lake.

Would certainly recommend the site and the ready camp tents!

Hi just a quick review stayed at Windermere Camping an Caravanning site, stayed 5 nights, second stay, super clean toilets & showers, lovely surroundings, organised welcome, guided to which site we wanted, we chose near dog walk & great views. We had no trouble with tv reception or use of club WiFi; will be booking again, well done all staff

Well spaced out

Very picturesque. Clean and today and the little pub is great

Could do with more hairdryers in toilets

Upon arrival I was immediately impressed with the campsite. It was well maintained, clean & on beautiful grounds. My friend & I were pleasantly greeted at reception during check in & quickly shown to our pitch. Staff couldn't have been nicer & gave us directions to Staveley village closeby where we enjoyed a little hike in the sunshine (about 2miles). Plenty of shower & toilet blocks all immaculate. Can't comment on the pub or shop as we took everything we needed for our girly weekend. All I would say is DO NOT leave any food lying around as we were woken by a field mouse at 3.30am on our 1st night, devouring a chocolate brioche bun which we'd casually left on a table (sealed!) amongst other foods. We locked all foods in the car & on the 2nd night slept much better. Untill 5.30am when a couple across from us decided to up & leave. They were rather rude & made a lot of noise packing away their things chatting loudly as they went!

I was particularly interested in the nearby "ready camp" tents which looked amazing & I'm planning on returning later in the year with my Husband & 3 children to try one out!

Stayed in ready camp tents. Really great facility. Lovely site and great staff. Excellent pub on site with very reasonable prices. Shame about the inconsiderate people in other ready camp tents who couldn’t keep their voices down or tell their screaming kids to be quiet either. And situated right next to the play park so kids on it at the crack of dawn shouting. Mud outside tent 7 really was unbearable. But all in all a great weekend. Will go again, but stay in real tents away from inconsiderate idiots.

Nice pitches and great staff . From a practicle point of view from a mother with a 16 month old , the mother and toddler rooms are not the best . They don’t have the half baths like other sites . It has a shower and provides a baby bath ( no place for the bath to sit) . I found it really small and impractical .

User

Lovely site with great facilities. Plenty of room around the park and the views are amazing. Very warm welcome from the staff too.

The only downside is that it’s advertised as dog friendly but the pub on site doesn’t allow dogs. Loads of people had dogs on site and I can’t help thinking that in the winter time it would be a great revenue opportunity.

User

Had a really good one night stay, pub was really good and a lovely quite camp site even tho it was pretty booked out..The only real problem was cold showers both night and morning in the second block, need to really address this problem. Also some signage on highway would work wonders for travellers who dont know the place..

Good points: This site is in a great location for exploring the area. Good facilities on site, showers etc kept clean and tidy; a small shop and a pub serving food. Staff are friendly and helpful too.

Bad points: this is the Lake district where it rains A LOT! Drainage is not good; after a few days of continuous rain it currently resembles a swamp. Wellies are a must!! One of our pitches is literally sitting in a pond.

Definitely would come back but at a dryer time of year.

User

Spacious pitches, lovely walks, however dog friendly site, but the on site pub doesn’t allow them in or to sit outside . Not on website only found this out once you check in. Staff not over friendly , and one also commented that “ he doesn’t do dogs “ men’s shower block dirty twice in three days.

Also very noisy, staff cutting hedges at 9am howling& barking dogs and children crying, not too relaxing .

User

Lovely toilet and showers as expected from a Camping Club site unfortunately we found it a very noisy site with heavy club site vehicles (tractors and large lorries) every day, caravans been towed off by the tractors, and water barrels been wheeled on the white stone roads by lots of people making an awful din from very early morning, although our pitch was nearby the taps and bins. Wouldn’t go back to this site but would go back to the Lakes. If noise doesn’t bother you then you’ll have no problems.

User

Very small pitches. Some staff lovely, others not so much. See you onto your pitch and watch you set up awning to then tell you to move your caravan back, I explained I would love to if there wasn't a 30' tree pretty much touching the rear, eventually agreed nothing I could do so next day instead we have to move car from position we were directed to and instead park other side of caravan. Expect better service from a camping and caravaning club site.
