It's Farm Fact Friday!
Did you know that the phrase "to play gooseberry" in the sense of an uncomfortable third person in the company of a couple goes back to the 19th century and probably originated from the idea that a chaperone would pretend to occupy herself picking gooseberries while the couple enjoyed one another's company. 'Gooseberry-picker' became a 19th century term for a chaperone.
There are lots of plump gooseberries growing in our gardens at the moment - see how many you can spot next time you're at the farm!

It’s Farm Fact Friday!
Did you know that the ornamental plant Stachys byzantina is commonly known as Lamb’s Ear due to its unusual leaves? Covered in soft, fur-like hairs, they really do feel like lambs' ears! Easy to plant and grow, Lamb’s Ear is a popular plant for growing with children, and can cope without too much watering due to its origins in the Middle East.
We have plenty of Lamb’s Ear growing in our front garden – give it a feel next time you’re at the farm!

Such a lot of fun stuff happening at our Wild Outdoors Day event on Saturday 18th May. You can even learn how to make traditional Japanese sushi with the wonderful Masuyo.https://www.windmillhillcityfarm.o rg.uk/…/traditional-sush…/

Thank you to everyone who entered our Easter competition and had a go at guessing how many eggs our birds would lay in April.
We can now reveal that the final total was a whopping 1057! Congratulations to our winner Zoe Stephenson whose guess of 1093 was the closest!
We hope she'll enjoy her animal tour and egg collecting experience - and that her eggs are a bit bigger than this tiny one produced by one of our bantam hens today!
