Congratulations to the 19th winner of Year 11 Star of the Week. This amazing pupil was nominated by Mr Jackson and Miss Rule.
Mr Jackson nominated our star as, "He has made great progress in his Sociology lessons and his work is always carefully planned out to make sure it meets and exceeds the required standard. He voluntarily attends weekly after-school revision sessions to ensure that he retains his knowledge in preparation for his exam and always shows a great determinati...on to learn and a great passion for the subject."
Miss Rule nominated this week's winner because, "He attends after school sessions at every opportunity. He has been a real star in the first Sociology class we've run and has made real progress, both in his knowledge and his use of subject specific skills. His answering of GCSE questions has gone from strength to strength. This is down to his sheer hard work and perseverance. It's been a real pleasure seeing him develop into a quality sociologist!"
Well done! Keep working hard Year 11 only 5 school days to go!

The winning book chosen by the pupils from nine of our Hull Academies who took part yesterday isвА¶вА¶.. вАЬThe Best MedicineвАЭ by Christine Hamill.
Christine Hamill, author and teacher of creative writing from Belfast, visited Winifred Holtby Academy earlier this week. She talked to pupils in 7W3 and 7W4 about her book, and her personal battle with Cancer that inspired her first ChildrenвАЩs Book вАЬ The Best MedicineвАЭ.
вАЬIt is funny, moving, and strangely empowering in its determina...tion to laugh in the face of the seemingly unbearableвАЭ
The day was really well organised by Hull Libraries, and the authors were there to inspire our pupils with their stories. Our pupils were a credit to our Academy as always, having read the 5 nominations and contributing fully in the book debate with pupils from other schools. We also had four pupils attend from THE LINK, who have enjoyed reading the books too.
If you see any of our pupils who took part, please congratulate them, as reading five books that are not of your own choice is quite an achievement.
