Withington Hedgehog Care Trust Description

COULD EVERYONE PLEASE NOTE THAT WITHINGTON
HEDGEHOG TRUST ARE NOT THE BHPS THEY ARE A STAND
ALONE AND VERY MUCH ALONE FROM THE BHPS AND
THEREFORE DO NOT RECEIVE FUNDING FROM THEM OR TO
THAT MATTER ANY HELP FROM THEM EITHER AS BECAUSE WE
ARE THE ONLY NUMBER RESPONDING TO PEOPLE ARE GETTING
PHONE CALLS ALL DAY AND ALL NIGHT FROM ALL OVER THE
COUNTRY AND WE DONT WANT TO BE RUDE TO PEOPLE
BUT WE ARE GETTING A LITTLE CROSS WITH THE BHPS
BECAUSE THEY WONT HELP THEY KEEP SAYING THAT WE CAN
BE TAKEN OFF THE PHONELINES WHICH AS EVERYONE WHO
KNOWS BARBARA WOULD KNOW THAT FOR THE SAKE OF THE
HEDGEHOGS SHE WOULD NEVER BE TAKEN OFF THE
PHONELINES AS SHE WOULD FEEL GUILTY ABOUT ALL THE
HEDGEHOGS THAT DONT GET HELPED IT IS NOW GETTING
REALLY REDICULOUS AND HIGHLY EXPENSIVE FOR A CHARITY
THAT DOESNT GET MUCH FUNDING AS EVERYONE BELIEVES
THAT SHE IS FUNDED BY THE BHPS AND SENDS THEM FUNDS
INSTEAD OF WITHINGTON. PLEASE DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY
SUGGESTIONS AS SHE IS AT THE END OF HER TETHER BUT
WILL NOT GIVE UP ON THE CREATURES THAT SHE LOVES AND
CARES FOR SO MUCH

From the 29th October until the 26th November the number to ring about any hedgehogs is Nigel on 07721059544. After the 26th November it will go back to 07597510460, if anybody phones this number you won't be able to speak to me as I'm out of the country, but can still take messages on messenger and sort hedgehogs out for you. Thank you Wendy

User

Dear all, we URGENTLY need puppy pads, kitchen roll and jumbo rolls. Thank you.

User

Can anybody pick up in Denton please?

User

Another hedgehog injured by one of these traps why oh why do people continue using them. If you want to get rid of rats etc there are other ways of doing it humanely

User

Please would people who ring for help and then DON’T bring the hedgehog for care, remember it is an endangered species, and it would be much appreciated if you would kindly inform me you’re not bringing it for treatment so that we can arrange further assistance for this animal, and I won't be waiting for the invisible man/woman to arrive, as we are a very busy wildlife centre and this takes time out of our day. Thank you

This is the little hoglet all the way from Scotland

User

Just had a baby hoglet (girl) arrived all the way from Scotland. Sadly her mum and siblings were killed. But for the lady who acted swiftly this little girl would have also come to a sad end. Thank you for caring for her

User

Can anyone out there make a very large mop cap. We have a giant size teddy and want to turn it into a hedgehog for our mascot. It is about 6ft tall so the hat needs to be about 20 round, a circle with elastic and a frill brim, needs to be in white cotton fabric plain. If anyone has time to make one please get in touch. Thank you kindly, Barbara. Will give exact measurements when I pick it up tonight

User

Dear all, If anyone has any black hand towels, or is refurbishing, please would you kindly consider donating to the Hedgehogs. This morning we have had a few hoglets with injuries containing maggots, the dark background allows us to quickly see them, therefore allowing swift removel. Thank you .The babies are a victim of a strimmer injury but are now comfortable and being very well cared for.

Can you bring to Withington hedgehog trust we can take them

User

This is the seal from a drinks bottle that the hedgehog had embedded in its body that was brought in to me this evening. It wasn’t one that’s off a four pack of cans. REMEMBER when hedgehogs are born they are VERY small so can get through alsorts of small things it’s when they grow that these items become a problem

User

thank you so much for picking the injured hedgehog up from my mums in bury .you all do a fantastic job .don't no what we would do if there wasn't people like you to care for them.

User

Wonderful, wonderful people. I found a hedgehog on my drive at 11.15pm last night. I phoned for some advise, thinking I was going to get an answering message and they answered and with no hesitation said to bring it in. I arrived at 11.30am and she was stood outside waiting for me to take her in.. There isn't enough stars to describe these wonderful people. A

User

Withington hedgehog rescue were so lovely and helpful this morning when i dropped off a poorly hedgehog covered in fly eggs, so pleased there are experts so willing to help! :) they are doing such an incredible job!

User

What a wonderful organisation this is and such dedicated people that run it. We found a very poorly hedgehog in a neighbour's garden who was obviously suffering. I rang Barbara and her colleague and was told to bring him to them immediately (even though it was 7o'clock in the evening). They advised me how to pick him up and handle him. I dropped him off and they rang me later to let me know how he was. Unfortunately he had been in an accident and was too poorly to save but they'd made him comfortable and pain free and thanked me very much for bringing him in. Lovely people who care so much for these beautiful animals.

We found a hedgehog in our garden yesterday afternoon. It was wheezing and had fly eggs all over it, and also looked as though its front leg was hurt. We found the number for Withington Hedgehog Care Trust and took it to Barbara who runs it from her house. Barbara cares for hundreds of sick and injured hedgehogs and dedicates her life to them. She is such an inspirational person, and completely deserves the OBE that she was awarded a few years ago. We hope our hedgehog survives - it's definitely being cared for in the best place possible. Unbelievable she doesn't get any outside funding, so if you can help, please do! We will certainly be giving a donation. Thank you Barbara

User

Thank you so much for taking the poorly hedgehog from us and knowing exactly what is wrong with him! Barbra is a lovely, friendly and extremely knowledgable lady. We would like to give you some donations as well, as we didn't bring anything. Would you prefer money or some supplies for your hogs? Mollie & Julie Xxx

User

Thank you so much for caring for the hedgehogs - my boyfriend found one in the garden and he thought it was dead but it was still alive so he called for advice and brought it round. It was a baby, hope it survives, I am sure it will now. Thank you xx

User

Save the Hedgehog. Beautiful odd creatures. Love them.

User

My fiancé found a hedgehog wandering around in the daytime on a building site. He contacted SAA who put him in touch with Barbara and she immediately took it in and looked after it. Very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. We took some cat food round several weeks later and had a good chat. Keep up the great work! Love from Andy and Amy (the lady with the hedgehog dress on who keeps rats) :) xx

User

Last night, a neighbour found a large hedgehog inside a big plastic bag of garden chairs in her shed. I rang Barbara just to see if I was ok to release the hedgehog to the garden, as it seemed large and well fed. She said it was probably about to give birth, as that's what hedgehogs do! We'd never have known that, and these September babies would not have survived the winter out on their own.

So I boxed up the mum-to-be and she's now with Barbara being cared for. Brilliant service from a lovely lady. We left a donation and will go back with items from the wish list, encouraging all our friends to do the same xx

User

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to Barbara and Wendy xx I brought in a baby Hedgehog today who had a badly broken leg and had probably been ran over, my daughter was v upset and sad but Barbara was amazing and showed such love and affection for the animals that Alyssa felt instantly reassured that we had brought her to the right place, I will definitely be dropping off supplies that might help when I can. I am so thankful that there are people like Barbara and Wendy in the world xx

User

I called to see Barber yesterday. I brought some food, towels, ethical cleaning agents etc... I was blown away by the massive commitment and passion barbera has. Her dedicated work is not getting the recognition she deserves...Her work is relentless ... This lady needs funds, and some assistance with putting items in safe places so that she can plough her love and expertise into caring for the little animals who are desperate at the moment xx Barbara is one very special lady who deserves massive funding and recognition now...... I will visit Barbara again very soon as she is tired... She was feeding babies while she spent her precious time chatting with me ......I left feeling very humbled by what she is doing xx BARBARA you are one very special Jewel... Regards Susie xxx

User

I found an injured hedgehog last night. I phoned this wonderful lady and she advised me to bring the hedgehog straight round even tho it was 10.30pm. She was really calm and kind and knew exactly what to do. She gave the hedgehog a diagnosis, painkillers, antibiotics and a bed for the night within 10 minutes. She is amazing and inspiring. I wad so relieved to know the broken legged hedgehog was now in good hands. 🐗

User

Found a hedgehog in my back garden this evening and after a quick search online, I'm glad I found this lovely site. I made a quick phone call and took it to Barbara's straight away.

She's such a lovely kind lady, even showed me the baby hedgehogs. They are just adorable. Thank you so much Barbara for taking good care of them plus the rest of the animals. :D

User

Barbara was so helpful when we had an injured hedgehog within our student accommodation. So inspirational what Barbara does, we need more people like her!!:) thank you!!

User

Barbara is one of the very very few, genuine, dedicated charities I’ve ever been too. She uses every penny of her own- in order to help animals in desperate need... vets bills are a continual worry and ever escalating. Please donate so that Barbara and Wendy can carry on in the future x

User

Barbara is a lovely lady who does her best for all the animals in her care. Yesterday we went to drop off some supplies that she desperately needed for the many hedgehogs in her care. We have also take underweight hedgehogs to her in autumn time and she is always happy to help. Wish we could of taken more supplies to her as she deserves all the help anyone can give her. She also shown us some of the babies in her care. It was such a wonderful experience even for my mum whom is nearly 83yrs old. It made her day. Thank you so much for all you do.

User

Barbara does a wonderful job at the hedgehog hospital. Her dedication to these little animals knows no bounds. She has given me so much help and advice about the hogs who visit my garden. Thank you Barbara. x
