#throwbackthursday When the hotel was requisitioned by the war department for the SAS the fireplace was whitewashed. When the hotel was reopened in 2012 the fireplace was returned to it's former glory. It's also good to see these chairs coming back into fashion!

We have been really well looked after, especially by the staff in the Brasserie. Beautiful location and good food.

We had our wedding day here on Good Friday. It was an incredible day! Katie was fabulous the whole way through from the first meeting and really went above and beyond to ensure our day was perfect. We had many of our guests stay over, and they were all very impressed, as were we with our suite. The whole team did an amazing job, and we wouldn't change a thing, not even the soggy weather! Thank you!

Today I took my mum for a belated birthday treat of afternoon tea at Wivenhoe House. I must say it was beautiful - the food was lovely and fresh, the setting stunning and the staff so eager to please without being in your face and nothing too much trouble for them. The price made it value for money. Will definately be coming back at some point!!

User

The service was extremely personal and the staff smashingly good and on top of their game.

Not to mention the cleanliness and outside so beautiful

I had an amazing night there in April. My partner and I went to Wivenhoe House for dinner to celebrate our anniversary, after many months of wanting to go. The food was brilliant and the service was perfect. We even got a complimentary dessert! The evening was made even better when my partner proposed whilst walking round the lakes. On the next Sunday we went to the Wivenhoe House wedding open day, and our wedding was booked with them within the month! I can’t wait!!

User

I got married at Wivenhoe House saturday 28/04/2018 and can honestly say it was all amazing!! The staff were all amazong, not too invloved but i knew they were there if i needed them.

User

Had afternoon tea here yesterday as a treat was blown away with the chose for diary free option really thought about it and the others had a amazing selection of sandwiches and cakes the service was great and happy waiter couldn’t do enough for us will definitely be returning

User

Had Christmas meal last night 15/12/17, service was very very slow, the soup was awful but the salmon was nice. We had to ask for salt and pepper then were given one set between a table of 20!!!!!! Not good service for a hotel of this standard. The disco was very poor also. For a Christmas night out it was very disappointing. Won't be going here again.

User

Absolutely lovely stay and amazing food! Highly recommend... Lionel’s amuse bouche was fantastic

Very friendly and polite staff will be back again very soon x

User

very beautiful setting lovely friendly staff booked for afternoon tea I pre ordered my sandwichs as I have allergies everything tasted and looked amazing little cakes scones lovely lots of hot tea and coffee only moan was the room was so hot even with Windows open but defo go back again

User

Was very disappointed with the quality of the food and service.

Steak was very dry and very hard to cut we were not given a steak knife and had to go and ask for one also came with out the sauce.

Fish had far too much batter on

and overcooked so it made batter very crispy and oily, the handout cut chips were very good.

Such a shame as it is a lovely venue could not recommend.

User

I have come for afternoon tea twice during the summer for friends birthdays which was fabulous. But I came again on Friday for my birthday and what a disappointment it was. Sandwiches left uncovered so stale, scones hard, ginger biscuit burned and nothing for birthday which there has been for others. No music just noise from Christmas party in other room. Young lady was very nice but lady on from desk quite rude and waiters standing over you not nice A very disappointing experience
