Woolacombe Beach

Woolacombe – I came here for many years as a child when it was a bit of a hidden gem, and then again as an adult for scooter rallies and music festivals. It has now turned into a popular British seaside resort without losing any of its old-fashioned charms. Woolacombe has a few shops, pubs and eateries but is most renowned for its huge sandy beach with tall dunes and rock pools. It is great for walking, beach play, paddling, surfing and exploring the pools. Parking on road is £1 an hour or in the seafront car park £6 a day. You can get tasty cooked meals and puddings served pretty quickly in the Red Barn. I recommend the steak and lasagne especially. (Unfortunately the weather was horrible during our visit but you can still appreciate its’ natural beauty.)

What a truly wonderful gem ... visited for the first time at the start of the school holidays and it was heaving, but even though we were child free ourselves - a very short walk and it was just us and Mother Nature - something literally for everyone - loved it and already booked to return in September!! We love woolacomb beach, it’s always clean & of course beautiful, can’t wait to be there again this summer

This is the most amazing place to stay. We always get an apartment overlooking the beach/sea to sit on the balcony and enjoy the fantastic view. Can't beat the Sri Lankan curry on the beach at Barricane either. It's a must do for anyone staying at Woolacombe. Have to get there early though as it's very popular. Have stayed here 8 times and we will be back again soon.

This fabulous beach has everything for families. An area that is dog free and an area where dogs are allowed. There are rock pools and sand dunes for the kids to explore and have fun and the beach is very well patrolled by RNLI lifeguards. The beach is cleaned everyday too. We come back to Woolacombe beach time and time again!

Lots of parking availability. Big beach and always space available for your setup. Great waves to play in and some nice rock pools to explore when the tide is out. Chip vans and ice cream vans dotted about if you need a top up. Super beach for all.

I offer a different perspective... the dog free zone has its benefits for dog owners as we are (happily) forced away from the masses huddled so close to the fish and chip vans that they couldn't swing a cat (assuming one was allowed). Meanwhile our dogs are off lead at the glorious southern end of the beach and we are free to enjoy the stunning scenery by ourselves. Twice voted the best beach in the UK. Perfectly obvious to see why... oh and no rubbish left behind either. Fab place. Will be back- with the dog...

I hadn't been to this beach since 1984. As beautiful and clean as I remembered it, bringing more good memories with my family now. It was good to see dogs on the beach (although we don't have one), and so many responsible dog owners. Nice to see the area hadn't become too commercialised in my long absence. We will be back again

Excellent beach. Probably the cleanest we have ever visited. Good surf for body boarding and the kids and I spent ages in the water. Good facilities and plenty of parking. It is relatively expensive at £8 in the main carpark but if you leave by 1pm it is £4 but once we were there we didn't want to leave ! We were very lucky with the weather and sunny for both visits. We would 100% return if back this way again.

Amazing clean beach, we visit nearly every year. Love it.

A great time was had again by all of the family. Always clean and well supervised, with enough refreshment stands and bins etc. We also went to Barricane beach, a couple of hundred yards past, a great little cove. The only negative I find as a dog owner myself (we didn't bring him) is overhearing other people with dogs moaning about the dog area. To have your own place to let dogs off the lead and run free is ideal! So why moan about it! I wouldn't want my dog to intrude on other people's fun, and don't want other people's dogs around my children, no matter how cute or "great around kids" they are. Another fantastic visit

Visited daily during August Bank Holiday week. Absolutely beautiful beach. Perfect for dog owners. Noticed the smaller sections for "No Dogs" and "Dogs On Lead" crammed full with people yet the larger section without restrictions almost empty. Lots of other beaches in the area have no dogs permitted at any time so it was appreciated to have so much space.

Lots of car parking which was great, reasonable at £6-£8 per day depending on which one you used. Marine Drive parking was good but walking back up the sand dunes at the end of the day was hard on the calf muscles!

Only downside was no waste collection bins in the unrestricted beach which seems shortsighted of the council. However, the conscientious dog owners keep the beach clean and free from mess and rubbish.

Pity the night time beach party mob can't do the same. One morning I noticed amongst the rocks near the Life Guard Station loads of cans, bottles and food waste, probably from a beach party the night before. Why can't these selfish people clear their own rubbish and mess? Disappointing behaviour. Just maybe, if there had been a waste collection point nearby they would have used it.

Love it. Spent 3 months on holiday there.

Love Woolacombe Beach. Each visit to the beach my Wife and I with our little gils would spend 5 minutes picking up any little we came across. Everyone do the same 😀

I have young children and was weary of the dog policy, but it turned out great. The dog owners keep the beach clean and are friendly. There are tiny rock pools on the side for little feet and plenty of running space. Parking is close and reasonable. Great view. Only I couldn't find a Chinese takeaway, there is only so much fish and chips I can eat in a holiday

Woolacombe Beach used to be one of the cleanest places around, really really sad to see such high levels of plastic washed up on the beach today and so much of it left towards the dunes. All small bits that really need picking up. Why don’t they offer a 2 minute beach clean pod/sign at the entrances to get people to pick up a few bits while they’re there? Other local beaches do this, and it doesn’t take much to set up. #surfersagainstsewage #oceanrescue
