About Wroxeter Roman City
Journey back in time for a glimpse of life as it would have been 2, 000 years ago
Wroxeter Roman City Description
Wroxeter (or 'Viroconium') was the fourth largest city in Roman Britain. Though much still remains below ground, today the most impressive features are the 2nd century municipal baths and the remains of the huge wall dividing them from the exercise hall in the heart of the city. Visitors to the site today can also explore the new Roman Town House, constructed as part of Channel 4’s TV series ‘Rome Wasn’t Built in a Day’.
This page is for visitors and fans of Wroxeter Roman City to share photos, thoughts and recommendations. Once the fourth largest city in Roman Britain, the landscape of Wroxeter would have been an impressive sight. The Old Work is the largest of the Roman ruins and anyone who has visited Wroxeter will no doubt have fond memories of seeing it up close.
We would love to see your pictures of our pride and joy, please share in the comments below ⬇️
We just love this shot of the Old Work! We took a similar photograph for our Easter post and couldn't resist going back to the same spot to take another. Do you have a favourite spot at Wroxeter to take photographs time after time? We would love for you to share them with us, in the comments section ⬇️

We recently undertook some essential conservation works at Wroxeter in the form of our museum clean. As you can imagine, it was very exciting to get a sneak peek behind the glass cases at our priceless collection.
If conservation is something that interests you, you will be pleased to hear that on the 9th and 10th of May there will be conservation taking place at our reconstructed townhouse.
