Great little old pub. Literally my favorite pub in Hull. Always a great atmosphere and service and really tranquil during the day. Great ale too, just wish there was more to choose.

Proper Hull institution. Very old but well preserved, friendly and busy and the place where the English civil War started (allegedly) . A real must visit place when in hull.

A very historic and important public house in the history of Hull and the history of England, leading to the out break of the English civil war.
The inn is famous for its plotting room, here it was decided not to let the King of England into the city.

Wonderful place for a quiet pint. Cosy interior, comfortable covered, heated seating area outside. Doesnt attract much of a crowd due to its somewhat obfuscated location. Perfect if you want to be one of the regulars.

Full of history. A good selection of real ales.
( I had a pint of XB). Friendly, helpful staff. Carpets haven't been cleaned since the civil war.

User

Old historic building and well looked after, with lovely food and drinks

The old pub has lots of history which is interesting to read. The pub is rather dark inside but I believe it is proberbly in keeping with it's historic roots. The toilets are not very clean and in desperate need of updating. The outside seating area is a nice place to sit but the outside heaters were not working when we tried them so it's not a place to sit for long.
