Ye Olde Windmill Description
Welcome
There are few traditional freehouse pubs around that have retained their social country atmosphere. Over the years we hope at Ye Olde Windmill we have maintained the 'olde' style english country pub welcome.
Ye Olde WindmillYe Olde Windmill is a 400 year old country pub and restaurant situated at the pinnicale of Gentleshaw Common. we have a disused windmill situated by our Crown Green Bowling Green in the gardens.
See us in the Good Beer Guide 2015
Around the pub we have the Old Deeds written in Old English that shows the land being deeded by John Smith to the heir Thomas Hall and John Bonnell on 15th May 1824.
Ye Olde WindmillElaine Parry, the current owner has owned the pub for 32 years and plays a large part in the actual running also assisted by Dennis Duckhouse the manager.
We serve traditional Cask Ales which are sourced from local and national brewers which Martin Parry changes weekly, as well as all popular beers and lager.
At Ye Olde Windmill Inn we pride ourselves on our homecooked wholesome food. We use only the freshest and finest meat and produce which is locally sourced whenever possible; it is all freshly cooked to order. We have a health and hygiene rating of 5-Stars and highly recommended for our big steaks and fresh fish.

cracking old pub / restaurant very large so plenty of space. Food very good and a great selection of beers, very friendly glad its close so can use more often..
You cannot compare to any chains that offer two for one, here you get good quality for what you pay for, very nice.
Ye Olde Windmill is a fabulous place for meeting up with friends old and new. Food and service marvellous, Dennis is a legend, always a great welcome. Love the bar keeping the cosiness in the days of Helen Banks with an open fire. Had some tremendous memories and love the tribute to Ivor Hunt; respect for a great man of our Village. Thank you xx
Wonderful friendly staff. Warm and welcoming place. Food is fantastic. And if you love an open fire like me. Then you will love this place.. I GIVE it a big thumbs up..
We sat out side to have our meal I ordered a 16oz steak and chips, wife had steak and ale pie, and the little one had the fish fingers meal, all the meals were hot, which was great, the meals were plentiful and cooked superbly, I was extremely impressed with our meals and well worth the money, I recommend the onion rings to anyone as a extra side order. The staff are always very pleasant too. Top marks from me
We have recently moved close to this pub and been for a few meals which have all been amazing. I have also enjoyed the new gin menu and would recommend the rhubarb gin. The service was amazing and the staff were lovely. Looking forward to making this our new regular.
We have been using this pub for ages but i wanted to try some thing different as I usually have the delicious steak. I had a query about one of the specials and checked with one of the waitresses, with in a few minutes the chef came out and explained in detail what was in the meal. Both my partners and my meal was perfect and we will be back as soon as we can. All of the staff are always helpful and polite.
Twenty of use went to the windmill 7th November 2017 birthday surprise for my daughter in law ,all the staff really friendly and very smart food was lovely and hot ,no one waited everybody was happy with there meals. The night took me back 21years l celebrated my 40 th there to that evening and food was outstanding then as well. Long live the ye old windmill
Lovely place and great food! Staff were great too 👍🏻👍🏻
I ordered "Lamb shank" and the `usual` accompaniments , mine was 1 of 8 plus a child`s portion . All arrived at the same time after a reasonable wait. Mine was excellent and so too was the rest of the table`s , judging by the empty plates . ( a few had too much !). Defintely worth the reasonable prices charged and very well worth a high recommendation .
I have been going to the old mill for a few years now and never had a bad meal the staff are really helpful lead by the main man Denis outstanding would not go anywhere else. Everyone i have taken all say the same, keep it up thanks one and all
Great food , Great Ales and fantastic service haven't been in here for 4 years but definitely be back soon
Good food as always excellant staff and dennis what more could you ask brilliant
Fantastic atmosphere, staff and food.
Customer service, pub and food was great. Despite a small mistake made in the food order they replaced my food and gave me a free pudding! Owners a lovely man and I’ll defo be back again!
Food was good, we did encounter an issue with the quality of one starter but we were immediately refunded without any quibble. 4 other starters and main meals were excellent and the staff and atmosphere were very welcoming. Plenty of parking available and an excellent choice on the menu. Great family experience.
I've been using this pub for years. Never had bad meal until last night. Went with family for a meal , it's the first time in 12 months since we last visited.
meals where very disappointing, the burgers, the buns was stail. They just fell apart when eating.
We asked one of the staff if it had changed hands because a family friend had told us it was under new ownership. They said there had been a few new chefs in recently. You could tell. up to its usual standards.
Enjoyed my meal at the Old Windmill very much due to the company and the lovely steak course. BUT the service was slow and offhand and the so called whipped cream with the cheesecake was of a strange consistency and didn't taste like genuine cream to me at all. Mentioned this to the staff and they insisted it was cream. I don't think so!!!
Lovely setting in the summer but driinks are expensive compared to some pubs and the gluten free menu not very tempting- jacket potato or new potatoes no chips, the usual steak cery original. Went elsewhwre!
Will be giving the Windmill a miss for a while. Second time in a few weeks I've had to sent the cottage pie back as it was stone cold, Can I suggest you purchase a new microwave or get the chef who uses it to read the instruction on the one you already have. You never seem to see the same staff, many college kids who really couldn't give a damn about service or manners.
