This week we've been talking to That's Cumbria about opportunities for volunteering work experience and traineeships for local young people who need a helping hand into work. If you know any one who would be interested in some training at YHA Ambleside tell them to get in touch :)

Beautiful :)

How amazing is this? We've had a family check in today that have brough us loads of games and books that they dont need any more :)
If you're coming to stay with us and have any unwanted books we'd love you to bring them as our books do love to wander away from the book swap shelves!

For an amazing family day out this summer why not hop onto the Green boat cruise which leaves from right next door to us at Waterhead Pier, hop off at Wray Castle to explore where Beatrix Potter spent her childhood holidays, hop back onto the boat to Brockhole for a whole range of family friendly activities, hop back onto the boat back to us for dinner in our bar overlooking the best sunset in Ambleside.

User

Well this sounds like fun, who's coming down for it?!

For live theatre with an amazing back drop there's nothing quite like seeing Illyria performing at Brantwood with views across Coniston water and the Coniston Old Man forming the backdrop. It's a brilliant family fun evening out and they're there not once but twice this summer so get your picnic hampers ready!

Just over a week to go to one of the biggest events in the Ambleside calendar; if you're here next Thursday check out Ambleside Sports, it's a day not to be missed!

A really interesting piece by Mountain Rescue. The weather in the valleys is amazing at the minute but it's always really important to be prepared when you're heading into the hills!

User

Just another day in paradise! Who's counting down to the weekend and jumping into the lake?!

User

Our staff meeting today includes kayaking lessons from Windermere Canoe Kayak; why not try heading out on the water next time you come to stay - Windermere Canoe Kayaks are based on our site hiring out Kayaks and bikes every Saturday and Sunday and all through the school holidays :)

Want to wild swim but think the waters too cold? (Me too :) ) Why not book in for the wetsuit try on session being held here by Swim the Lakes on Sunday.

User

What better way to spend the bank holiday than getting up and going for a paddle :)
Windermere Canoe Kayak have a base in the hut in our garden so you can avoid the traffic and paddle right from the hostel!

If you're heading through Ambleside this evening please be patient on the roads as there are likely to be delays #letsrunformatt #finishformatt

We're sure that you will have all see the tragic news about Matt Campbell, the London marathon runner who sadly died during the race on Sunday.
Please be aware that if you are arriving in Ambleside on Thursday evening that there is an event being held in his memory and that traffic into and through Ambleside may be effected.
The latest update that we have seen by the person organising the event says -

Ever wondered what it's like to stay with us? Check out this great (and honest!) write up by Rachael Oakden......

User

We love this place. Informal, no frills yet it’s comfortable and the lakeside location is excellent. The staff are friendly and helpful and the facilities are just what you need as a base for some great walks and days out. We’ve stayed here with our 2 kids three times in the last 18 months and will keep coming back.

User

Wasn't sure about staying here with 2 kids but for £59 for the night for 4 of us, I couldn't resist! The self catering kitchen is clean and we'll equiped and not as busy as I thought it would be. The kids loved making breakfast with everyone and we even learnt about Chinese food and traditions from a lovely lady preparing food for the day. (You wouldn't get that in a fancy hotel). The whole hosel was lovely and clean and the rooms were so warm! We arrived in the dark so couldn't see out out of the window, we knew we were close to the lake but nothing prepared us for that view!!! Absolutely stunning! Will definitely stay again although I imagine it would be a little crazy in the summer months x

User

This hostel is in an ideal location, situated on the banks of Lake Windermere in the Lake District. This is a great place to stay. It is clean and well maintained and the staff are efficient and friendly.

Breakfast is well organised and worth booking in advance to make a saving on the cost.

I will stay here again.

User

The location alone was more than value for money! Made use of the restaurant and self catering (new to hostel life, stayed in 3 since crimbo no going back! We love mixing it up!) Daughter loved every minute x

User

Stayed here this weekend, it's a great plac, in a prime position, just next to the lake. The staff are really helpful and friendly, food is lovely. Great for a spot of walking kayaking or just relaxing. Can't wait to go back.

User

On an impromptu day trip to the lakes for my husband to recce a run, my friend and I joined the 10am yoga class with Gareth. What a great start to the day! Gareth is very informative and full of knowledge based on his history and experience of Yoga. I felt well stretched and my mind was calmed and I will definitely attend again when next visiting. The reception staff were helpful and friendly and the toilet facilities were clean. It's made me look into other YHA locations on my journey home! Thank you x

User

My first time in this particular yha. There were 5 of us in a dorm at the top. The view was fantastic even though it was raining . Very clean all round and very nice staff. There's a bar and restaurant also. I ordered 3 tapas dishes for £11.00 which was great value and really nice. Nice ale too!!

We've just booked again for 1st January . Very impressed!!!

User

Just come back after fabulous 2 night stay in a family room for our sons birthday -we did Treetop trek nearby which we got to by boat from Ambleside - so impressed with accommodation this was our first YHA stay with the kids we can't wait to join up now! Clean and modern, good value food, stunning views & freindly staff. Excellent. Will definitely return - Thankyou

User

It's a secret, OK, but this place is absolutely first rate (if you can manage without a TV in your room, and you can get yourself to the kitchen to make your own cups of tea).

User

I stayed here on Saturday (13/08/16) with my two friends as we were attending a wedding close by. We couldn't fault the facilities at all and the location is beautiful. I wanted to write this review to say how amazing the staff were to us, they were all so friendly and helpful. I want to say a special thank you to Chelsea who went above and beyond to make sure we got to the wedding on time. I would recommend this hostel to anyone.

User

I pedal to this hostel from the Fylde Coast. The location is Perfect for setting out on the bike and climbing local passes.. I believe you're only a mile from the start of the struggle. It has bike storage and the self catering kitchen is excellently equipped. Staff are always friendly, even when they caught me drinking a bottle of my own wine... ( in my defence I did ask at the bar which wines were vegan and they couldn't tell me)... I have stayed a number of times over the past two years and I will definitely be staying for a number of times in the future. It's so cheap midweek with membership that nipping to Ambleside and having a day in the lakes it's nearly always an option... counting the days until Helvellyn is open

User

Great weekend in Amlbleside with the Hostel as our base, fantastic location right on the Lake.. Stayed here a good few times over the years& will do many more times..👍

User

Well done to all working in YHA’s👏👏keep up the good work😎

User

Great food, brilliant setting right on the lake

User

Fantastic stay with the family, would definitely recommend and we will be back again!

User

Clean, warm, good food, and fantastic view

What more do you want?

User

Back from our second stay at YHA Ambleside. Everything was just fantastic. There's no where else in the Lakes where you can stay with such a spectacular view for the amazing prices charged here. Rooms are basic but have all you need for a crash pad. Staff are helpful, chatty and friendly. We ate in the bar on both evenings and food and service were both great. A perfect base for any Lakes trip. We'll be back

User

Just wanting to shout out to the restaurant team who were brilliant at plannin and delivering a group meal for me and my mates last Saturday. It was a shame there was an issues with the oven and this limited the menu for no pizza ect. All in all 😃

User

Great welcome. Friendly staff. Everything was explained. Food available or self-catering if you want. There are lockers to keep yuu kit safe and a fob to get you into the building and drying room. Room was well equipped. Showers were good. The toilets were a little small though. Overall great hostel in great location. I will be staying here again.
