Wonderful wee hostel in the lakes and great walks around it!

Wonderful location, amazing views (clouds willing), great YHA staff, absolutely loved the whole experience of being off grid, with a few of life's comforts ... clothes airer, log burner, shelves on which to dry boots out, decent food and a bar, hot shower and 2 WC's. My idea of heaven!

What a gem. Cycled up from lower down the valley, had a cup of tea in amazing surroundings, wanted to do this for a while and well worth it.

User

What a fantastic little place. Stopped here on a cycle ride for a quick cuppa. Cosy hideaway in a magnificent not location.

What a fabulous place, made even better by our wonderful host James who looked after us like kings! Spotlessly clean, gorgeous food and treats, warm homely and inviting definitely on our list to return

This must be one of best YHA treasures to stay and explore the area in. Warm and a very friendly welcome greets you after a hard days walking or cycling.

I stopped at the Black Sail Hut on 13 SEP 16 as part of the National Geographic Adventures Coast-to-Coast Walk. Such a beautiful setting offering some much needed comforts for a tired hiker. While our group only stopped for a short time to have some tea or coffee and eat our lunches it was such a wonderful experience that many in our group commented on as being a special highlight of the trip.

User

Great stay at Black Sail. Even though we arrived late we were welcomed with a smile and a drink. Can't sing Kirstys praises high enough and she floored us with her help.

User

Great little hostel in a great setting, staff helpful as usual, will be back!

User

Fabulous location. An absolute pleasure and a great finale to more than a year of special treats to celebrate a big birthday!!!

User

Cycled here and had a lovely cuppa tea with a fantastic view. Well worth a visit.

User

Awesome place, the promise of tea and cake to have with our butties kept the little people in our walking party going. Loved meeting a variety of people at such a remote location, truly excellent spot!

User

Amazing place, so remote but the recent renovation is amazing! So warm, well equipped and just perfectly located! Well worth the walk/cycle in!

User

A fantastic experience. Our favourite YH so far. Our family (aged 5 to 73) booked out the whole place as part of our annual YH holiday. The kids loved it - such an adventure. The adults want to go back too. Great staff, food, atmosphere, refreshments. One of our party tripped over a sheep on the way to the loo in the middle of the night!

Definately will go back.

Thank you YHA.

My friend and I have just had a really enjoyable couple of days staying at Black Sail YHA, the food and the company, including staff were great, the hostel still has the old ambience and of course a fantastic location but a big let down was that we couldn't buy any Cumbrian beers in the bar only a couple of Southern and foreign beers, these days they don't even sell the famous "Black Sail" beer and having Jennings Cumberland Beer sponsorship all over the YHA Land Rover didn't do them any good as the bar doesn't even stock their wares, SHAME!
